Hi, I am in cycle 5 of TCHP and have just redone my nail varnish to discover some small black marks along the middle of a few of my finger nails. I assume this is a consequence of either Carboplatin or Docetaxel. Just wondered if anyone has any advice if I can do anything to prevent this or treat it? I am already suing UV protective nail varnish and have been since chemo began. Thank you lovely ladies x
Hello,
I think you're probably doing all you can to protect your nails. It's unfortunate that you are getting problems so close to the end but hopefully the deterioration will stop as soon as the chemo stops. I was lucky with my nails and unfortunately the evo nail product I used has been discontinued.
I hope this is just a minor blip and the rest stay fine.
Love Karen
Unfortunately once it takes hold therebisnt much you can do I lost my finger nails and some of my toe nails I'm hoping now I have finished my pacilitaxel my nails will start to repair I have stibs t where I once had nails but at least they do not hurt any more wishing you lots of luck with your nails regards Belinda xx
Hi Irishgirl16 I used Jennifer Young Nail Oil during my four EC but switched to Polybalm for Docetaxol following a recommendation from ladies on the monthly chemo thread.
All was fine during EC but I have noticed changes on D. Nails are a bit discoloured and one of my toenails has got a bit of black on one side.
Obviously dont know if it would have been worse if I hadn’t used anything but the Polybalm seems like pretty good stuff. Nails are growing madly better than ever before and the discolouration I do have seems to be above the nail bed I.e on older nail growth so before I started using it. If it carries on making them grow this well, I might use it forever!
I don’t think you’ll reverse what you have but it might stop it getting worse! Plus you’ll might get really healthy nails after it grows out
Best wishes xx
