Was on Amnidex for a year and because it wasn't helping my Osteoarthritis in my knees was changed to Exmestane, on it 2 days and got 13 side effects . My ankles and hands haven't improved, rang BBN but she offered to put me on Toxamoxin, I asked for Amnidex instead as hadn't got these side effects from it. Seen doctor he didn't comment much on my swollen hands and ankles just ordered a non fasting blood test. Should I be concerned?? Is it possible I am still getting side effects 11 days on ? Only on it 2 days!! Now waiting to get back on Amnidex. Advice appreciated it

    Hi

I'm sorry you're experiencing such side effects.  I'm assuming you mean Arimidex / anastrozole?  With any of the hormone-blockers, different people can experience different side effects.  A lot of the side effects can be related to different manufacturers, rather than the drug itself - anastrozole

Unfortunately, the 'professionals' won't suggest trying different brands but trying different brands can mean the difference between intolerable or tolerable side effects

If  you order your prescription on a different day to any other meds you have, it will be on it's own script.  You can then take this script to any pharmacy, giving you the choice of what brands they have in stock.  Even phone around the pharmacies to check who has what, beforehand, so you know which pharmacy to go to.

    Good luck

  • Also they often order a brand on request

    Hi

    I agree.  :)

However, I feel it's worth experimenting with different brands to identify the one you wish to contine with.

GPs are likely to be sceptical re prescribing a particular brand and tend to say/think all brands are identical, which we know they're not re fillers, colourants etc.

Hence by just getting a separate script, you're in control and can experiment without involving the GP until you know which brand suits you best   ;)
