I am onton my 2nd of 3 Docetaxel. Was fine with the first one. Have severe diarreah which started on day 9 with this cycle. Have spoken to chemo nurses and took Immodium and followed the BRAT diet (bananas rice apple sauce and toast). I'm getting worse now though and my stomach is really sore. I have bloods next week for my last cycle and I'm worried these are going to be a mess. Have rang GP but cannot get through they just tell me to ring back. Anyone else experienced this or have I picked up some kind of bug. Thanks guys.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read how your latest cycle of docetaxel has affected you. I don't have the experience you're looking for but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. This is possibly because this is such an active group that your post has slipped off the first page before the person with the right experience has seen it. Replying to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list.

While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your journey with cancer into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. Hi Forrest,

I had terrible diarrhoea after my first Docetaxel. It started on day 4/5 and carried on until about day 14. My stomach was also really sore with cramping and I really struggled to get it under control, even with Imodium.

I was told to take Metaclopromide around day ten and that really seemed to help so it might be worth asking for some as it seemed to get things back into a regular cycle. I’ve just had my next round delayed but not because of bloods, just because I had lots of nasty side effects and the chemo team felt I wasn’t well enough yet.

Might be worth calling your chemo team if you can? I hope it settles soon if it hasn’t already.

    Ruby xx

  • Hi Forrest1865

I had diarrhoea  on all 3 sessions of Docetaxel which was really bad. Even though I had this my bloods always came back normal . Just make sure you drink plenty of fluids I had tablets off the chemo unit and found them better than immodium, also I found probiotic drinks like actimel helped.

sorry to say but diarrhoea is one of the main side  effects of Docetaxel.

After I finished my chemo my stomach did go back to normal quite quickly.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment.

  • Thank you Carolyn.  I seem to have gone the other way now.  Day 3 of constipation!   Its a viscious circle.  The sooner I finish the better.  Its good to know that when I do finish that it will go back to normal quite quicky.

Good luck on any next step you have to take also xx

  • Thank you Ruby.  Im pleased Im not the only one. I've gone the other way now and Im onto day 3 of constipation!  Theres no happy medium with us lol.  Sorry to hear your next round is delayed but if the team think you arn't well enough, they know best.  I was the same recently. I had been in hospital with an infection and on antibiotics so my bloods were through the roof, it was only delayed for a week.  Just think by the time you are ready you will smash it full on.  Take care.
