Not good guys first thing was no clear margins. Second thing was 3/3 of the lymph nodes taken was all postive for cancer cells . And then last thing was I also during surgery they removed a small lump near nipple it now has came back as grade 2 invasive lobular carcinoma. In the same breast as I had the invasive carcinoma NST grade 2 . They are so shocked to discover to different types of cancer in the same breast of someone so young . I’m devastated as really thought after my surgery I wud have clear margins and be on my way wit radiation and hormonal therapy. Now the question is do I have more surgery re excision of margins and definitely the lymph nodes axillarry clearance possible nipple removal. Or do I have chemo wait six months on genetic testing results which my surgery don’t think it’s genetic. Or do I just get whole boob removed and reconstructed. I’m so confused and have no idea as what the best decision to make is do I go through 6 months of chemo with a small baby and then genetic come back postive and need the breast of anyways or do I do the chemo and then do the other surgery for it to come back no clear margins again . My head is all over the place at min I just don’t know what to do ? How can someone have two different types of breast cancer in the same breast . X
Hi Neevy35, that’s a lot of difficult news for you to take in. I wonder if it’s worth starting a thread with more detail in the title, in the hope that someone with a similar diagnosis shares their experiences and treatment plan. There will be people here who have had something similar which always helps somehow. Definitely you have a sh** load to deal with, and so many different options to consider. I’m assuming that you haven’t seen an oncologist yet? Hopefully that will come soon and will surely suggest a course of action based on all the results.
Sending a big virtual hug your way, hope you have support close to hand, love and hugs, HFxx
Thanks so much for getting back to me they are having a meeting this Friday to discuss about the chemo route first and then going to call me Monday. I just had the left therapeutic mammoplasty and sentinel lymph node biopsy and right breast reduction 2 weeks ago so really dnt know what surgery I should have now or I do take the route of having breast removed wud I still need chemo anyways as of my age etc . I may call my breast nurse tomorrow and ask more questions as today was so much to take it for me . Thank you so so much xx
Sending hugs but no great advice. I was looking for current threads about waiting for results and saw yours first. I am sorry you had so much to take in. Calling the breast nurse and asking questions in chunks, manageable size, adding in stuff as it occurs to you, sounds a wise plan. X
Thank you had good phone call meeting consultant again Monday we think the chemo first before another surgery is the best plan of action for me at this time so hopefully Monday that’s the plan still the same they having there own MDM this Friday x
Glad you are beginning to get a plan in place. I think the most tortuous thing is not knowing what you might be facing. A cancer diagnosis is bad enough without such uncertainty and of course additional worries after the op. Also saw your other post where people are responding with different experiences but with some similarities. Breast cancer now also (I think) offers a ‘someone like me’ service, linking you with another person with a similar diagnosis. Might be worth looking at. I haven’t used that site much but dip in from time to time as it has useful info pages as well as a chat system (which I haven’t used, I like the chat stuff here).
Love and hugs, HFxx
Hello and glad you had that helpful call with consultant
Hi, I remember being newly diagnosed and like you my head was all over the place and I couldn't think straight, let alone make a decision about treatment but believe me it does get easier with time. I had a positive margin after a mastectomy and so went on to have Radiotherapy and now on hormone tablets. I think go with what your Team believe is the best way forward for you, they deal with this day in and day out and as they share your medical notes at MDT it is a collective decision, not just based on one Doctor. At the outset of my diagnosis I was a wreck and I doubted they would get it right for me but as time has gone on my faith in them has grown, they want to get it right for their patients, that's why they are Doctors. I don't know your age but with a baby you are obviously quite young but, for me it was a case of get the breast off, I didn't have a reconstruction and knew it was right for me. Following a mastectomy patients are only offered radiotherapy if the margins aren't clear and it's not usually all the margins not being clear, I had a large tumour 4.5 and 0.5 cm DCIS in a small breast. It's a difficult one and no one can tell you which way to go but ask lots of questions and telephone the macmillan site they are so helpful. Take care and all the best.
