Hello everyone

I don’t really post much jsut lurk in the background and come on every so often. Pick up some tips take inspiration from people’s stories.  So Thankyou everyone. Baby steps but you’ll get there

my last chemo is next week and radiotherapy after that.   What can I expect in regards to that.  I’ll be honest I haven’t googled anything because going through chemo was hard enough.

Nothing to worry about.  I assume you have already had your measuring CT scan and it is much the same as that.  You lie on a table whilst the machine turns round you.  The first one will take a little longer than the rest because they have to set you up in the correct position and once in that position they make a note of settings on the bed for the next time.  You don't feel anything and they will talk you through each stage.  They obviously have to leave the room whilst you are getting treatment but they will speak to you over loudspeaker and there is a microphone for you to talk to them.  They can see you in the room so if you show signs of distress (nothing really to distress you though) they will come back into the room to sort you out.

Read some of the radiotherapy threads and you will get some idea of any possible side effects and what moisturisers to use and what not to use.

  • I have my last day of radiotherapy today (5 days whole breast, 5 days booster) and I can honestly say I have barely noticed it. I had chemo too - if you can get through that, you can get through anything! The only thing I have had is very slight redness for a couple of hours afterwards and very very mild pain around the scar site, but I am honestly not noticing either of those much. I've also continued working throughout with no issues.

The treatment itself is super quick - they take a few minutes to line you up (you will go for a planning session here they use a CT scanner to help them put dot tattoos on your skin, which then helps them line you up each time). Then it is a few minutes for the machine to work, even less for the booster.

You can get skin reactions but they'll tell you all about that, and they would give you cream for it. I have been using aveeno throughout, but that will not make a difference to whether you get a skin reaction. There are some other potential side effects, but they will talk you through it all ahead of time.

    Good luck! You're almost there.
