I'm onto day 8 of cycle 3 FEC-T and the pain in my arm is getting unbearable. Its not near where I have my cannula the pain and swelling us halfway up. Is there anything I can do to ease it? I spoke to my Onco today who just said yes it's from the chemo and wasnt helpful. My chemo nurses have said to put heat input which hasn't helped either. It's really getting me down now. Cant go on like this for another 3 rounds and gave the "T" next. Thanks guys x

  • Hi Forrest1865

I had the same . Fec is such a strong chemo it really affects your veins. my pain and swelling was half way up my arm and really hurt when bending it . The oncologist assured me it was all OK but sent me to have a ultrasound on my arms just to put my mind at rest. It will go soon  but your arms may ache for a while.  My pain  went by the time I had my T and it is a lot gentler on your veins.  Good luck with the rest of your treatment

  • Thank you Carolyn. Sitting in hospital typing this with cellulitis in the arm! Can hardly move it. I hate FEC-T! X

  • Hi there, and sorry to hear your veins are having a hard time with the FEC. Carolyn is right in saying that thr next chemo el be easier.  I had 4 x EC (no F!) Followed by Paclitaxel,  and it's the 'E' part which affects veins and tissue.  At our hospital women usually have a PICC line or port,  depending on what they will be having and for how long,  but I know quite  a few women are given chemo by cannula who are on this forum. It should improve,  but maybe ask if they wiill give an extra saline flush after the remaining  ones. X
