Hi there, I have been diagnosed with breast cancer a month ago. I will have mastectomy on the 29th and thinking of an implant as I feel it is the simplest thing to do instead of flap surgery as I also just want to concentrate on the cancer and not worry about other parts of my body. But iam not 100% with my decision especially when I read about phantom Brest pain and etc. Any of you had implants after mastectomy out there who wish to share their experiences?
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
Having not had the treatment that you're about to have I don't have any experience to share with you but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. This is probably because this is such an active group your post has slipped off the first page before anyone with the right experience has seen it. Replying to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list.
While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Need replies too. Similar situation to yourself Tubis. Would dearly like to hear some good experiences, as I'm way out of my comfort zone on this one and need to make sensible choice between flat, implants, and DIEP.
Hi there. I had a skin sparing masectomy in January with immediate implant/expander. I am hoping for DIEP in the near future. The implant is always there as you can feel it constantly. It moves with you. Also fluid can build up regularly around the implant. Looks wise it is okay and when dressed you cannot tell the difference. If you can live with the constant feel of it even when turning over in bed it might be for you. Good luck x
Very interesting. Is the movement why you would prefer DIEP ?
Yeah and also after radiotherapy it can damage the implant anyway. DiEP was recommended for me. Good luck.

Hi, I had a skin sparing mx with implant at the time of the op in 2018. I didn’t want a much longer op, but at the same time didn’t want to look down and not see something there!
my surgeon was happy to put in a temporary implant if I needed radiotherapy and then replace. However I got lucky, had a holiday booked so she planned a sentinel node biopsy before, then the mx after, knowing the chances were I might be clear, and I was.
im happy with my implant, it’s higher, not so full and a slightly odd shape but liveable with and feels fairly normal. It’s fine in a good bra!
Hope you reach a decision you’re happy with.
Hugs xxx
