Good Afternoon All,

I'm nearly a year on from my lumpectomy and lymph node clearance under right armpit and now have been told by my consultant that I have lymphodema in my right breast which is incredibly painful. She is refering me to the lymphodema nurses but I'm told is a massive waiting list so just here to ask any advice please and thank you.

  • Hi ,

I've had lymphoedema since surgery last year though it doesn't cause any pain, mind you there's probably enough discomfort elsewhere to mask some! Plus mine is in hand/fingers so not as sensitive an area.  I also had to wait an eon to see the specialist and now wear a very attractive (!!) 'sand' (why sand?) coloured sleeve and glove...not sure what they'll give for the chest area.

Anyway I found some useful videos on youtube as to how to massage the affected area - another reason why my lymphodema isn't painful?

There is also a lymphodema charity which may be able to help 'lymphoedema.org.uk'.

    Good luck

    Sam

My secret? Being daft & staying positive.
  • I have had lymphoedema since just after lumpectomy a year ago. Mainly in upper arm and armpit but sometimes in breast as well. Pain is OK during the day but very bad at night. Had a sleeve fitted but it rolled down at the top (fat arm maybe!) had another made with rubber band inside but came out in a rash. I give up!

Now take 2 paracetamol just before bedtime and doctor has given me Ketaprofen gel. Helps a little but I am also doing lymphatic drainage exercise not sure whether it works!

Anyone with any more tricks - welcome to pass them on!

Not sure if this is any help but I hope you see nurses soon and get sorted out.

    Keep calm and carry on!
