Anyone on Kadcyla

Hello 

Glad to hear you are thru surgery and chemo. How does your oncologist know herceptin isnt working as well as it should be? My oncologist told me they dont really know if its working . I didnt have kadcyla I had a year of herceptin. Think kadcyla is a new drug. My friend is on kadcyla and is fine on it. She doesn't use this site. Hope you get some more responses to your question.

             I’m on kadcyla. Started in September 2020 now due to get number 11 next week , getting a total of 14. So far not to bad.

Side effects I get are sometimes a full/ foggy sore head for the first week but have not had that every time. Take paracetamol and just try to make sure I’m drinking lots of water.

Occasionally I get spots on my face just a few but also get them in random places on my thigh or my abdomen but as again not really a problem and they just go away.

Get a really dry mouth just sip water lots and that alleviates it.

Also constipation which I am now on docusate twice a day and with drinking water and excercising this works for me.

Lastly feel tired but yet again don’t know if this is the accumulation  of all the treatment . Which since October 19 is x4 chemo docetaxel Herceptin and pertuzimab x3 surgery ended up with mastectomy, x3 chemo FEC, 5 days fast forward radiotherapy.

It doesn’t affect my hair growth and I feel I’m starting to get more energy now.

I get bloods day before treatment and one of those blood tests is to check heart function as Herceptin can sometimes affect this. The one for heart function is after every 3 treatments I think used to get ECHO but now they can do a blood test. 

Also see my oncologist every 3 months to check how I’m doing.

kadcyla has Herceptin and a chemo drug so just have to be vigilant as our immune systems are low.
