Hello everyone,
I'm Steph from the Community team, I hope you don't mind me posting here.
We've been asked to create a new thread for radiotherapy discussions this April, as the existing threads were getting a little long.
Please do let us know if you have any other threads you think would be useful to link here.
Hi RubyDclem4 and lynne well I got locked out for a few days so could not respond to you all. My pain from Paclitaxel on day 4 was horrendous and I did not leave my bed. Taking paracetamol and naproxen and that is going a grand job. Still have my blood shot eye and a very yellow tinge to my face. Just looked that up and as an SE it says requires medical attention but is not urgent. Anyone else had this? Gwennie
Hi Gwennie
Jaundice (yellowing of the skin) is usually about the Liver and should be seen by the docs as urine and blood tests usually carried out to check it is functioning as it should. This is checked routinely given all the drugs and medications we take treating the cancer.
Sorry you getting strong SE and hope it passes quickly for you.

Hi Caroline
Thanks for your lovely reply. It was nice to feel someone had heard me.
i spoke to the oncology nurse today. She has arranged an phone appointment with oncologist on Thursday but didn’t think they would let me go back to iv. It seems like I don’t have a choice!
And then I heard this afternoon that my buyer’s buyer has pulled out, so it hasn’t been a great day!
Hope everyone’s rads are going well, skin keeping moisturised and fatigue not too bad.
Judith
Hi Judith
I'm sorry to hear that you have had such a difficult time, like you I hate being rushed into making a decision about something without having the full facts. When it is your health at stake then you should have been given enough information and time to make an informed decision. What a pain about your house chain as well, not what you wanted to hear. Our buyers' buyer have delayed us all today but thankfully not pulled out.
I had my planning session today, the radiographers were lovely and made it all seem very easy after the traumas of chemo. Just as I was about to leave they called me back and dropped a little treat on me - a Covid test. I have my radiotherapy for 5 days next week.
I hope things are better for you tomorrow and the side effects from your treatment have settled down.
Corrine
Hi Judith
No problem at all, its important for us to get our stuff out there isnt it. Good luck for thursday as you never know the oncologist might give u the iv especially if its maybe only the one loading dose. Sometimes the not having a choice makes it easier than having to choose especially under pressure.
Thats a shame about your house!! Think we have to work abit harder at the moment to deal with disappointments of any kind.
Good thou that your skin held up well during your radiotherapy. Ive had my second session today of 10, 5 whole breast and 5 boosts. Its going okay so far. Just so glad to be finished the Chemo.
Good luck with your radiotherapy next week Judith.
Caroline xx
Disappointing as the oncologist never phoned so I am no further forward. I will phone again on Monday, ask the breast nurse again, and start the whole process again.
Hope everyone’s treatment is going well and you all have a restful weekend.
Judith
Hi Judith
Thats a shame they didnt phone! I wonder would the nurse be able to rely the question and get an answer back for you if the oncologist is to busy?
Ive had my week of whole breast radiotherapy and next week is the boost radiation daily. Apparently there are 2 types one is for deeper and the other more surface area beam (photon and electron) Think I am electron if I heard the nurse right.
My left breast feels uncomfortable but it was sore around the ribcage anyway before radiotherapy. A bone scan didnt show up any abnormality going on so I suspose it must be radiating from the original lumpectonomy site. I didnt have clear margins so an extra scrape was required (which was thankfully clear) but im thinking this is maybe why its still sore?
Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Caroline
I had a lumpectomy on 15th April and have my radiotherapy next week. I am still sore around my ribcage and think it might be because this is where my reconstruction was done from. I will see what happens at the end of this week after the radiotherapy has finished.
Corrine
Hi Corrine
Thanks yes, would be interesting to find out (not that I would want you to get more sore)! mind you I would expect you to still feel sore as your operation isnt that long ago. Bet your so glad to be at the final hurdle stage now? I had my ops in November and December last year and sort of expected not to be feeling sore at this stage. However im small breasted and maybe with the additional scape and the wee metal bits still inside thats probably whats doing it.
Good luck with your rads next week x
Caroline
Hi Caroline
Thanks, yes I am very glad to be at the last hurdle, my first radiotherapy is this afternoon and I'm feeling nervous right now but not as bad as before my first chemotherapy session.
I hope your soreness settles soon, I am small breasted too, I think you are probably right, all that poking around inside does leave everything uncomfortable.
Best wishes
Corrine
