Hi, my first post on here, be gentle with me Blush

I finished radiotherapy for breast cancer 2 weeks ago, and dealing with radiation flare up on my skin reasonably ok, but I am suffering SO badly with insomnia,  I can't get to sleep for hours, and then keep waking!Pensive

Is this a side effect from the radiotherapy, or the hormone treatment I'm taking to help stop the cancer coming back?

Would love to know if other cancer survivors have had this problem.

Thank you

Lorna

Hi Lorna H welcome to the forum. we do try to be very gentle with everyone when they first arrive here. That sounds like it has been really difficult for you with all that is going on.

Believe it or not this can and does happen after Radiotherapy it certainly did for me and when I spoke to others having Radiotherapy at the same  time they had had the same and thought it was just them so it does seem to be fairly common. The good news it is does pass and it  may take some time to this.

Somebody once told me not to just lie there trying to get to sleep as you just get more wound up by not sleeping but get up have a cuppa and then try again and it works or at least it does for me. You will get there honest its horrible though not getting your sleep .

  • Hi Lorna and Granny59,

I too have completed radiotherapy a month or so ago, and I am nearly going crazy through lack of sleep. It was poor before, but now, I get to sleep, wake 2 hours later and am very unsettled for rest of night. My legs are so restless too.

I have tried a sleep supplement, but my heart was racing, so dumped that. I am now trying magnesium and iron supplements, 1 week in, no positive signs yet!

Would love to know what others have tried?

Good luck, let's hope we get some sleep soon!
