Hi all,

I had my first EC chemo last thur and managed pretty well for the first couple of days. I’m really struggling now though with abdominal pain and constipation (still haven’t been). I can’t sleep, I’m struggling to eat and I feel quite nauseous.

I had a home visit from the docs yesterday and got some omezparole for my stomach and more anti sickness. They’re helping a bit but I can’t seem to shift the soreness and just feel rotten.

I know everyone is different, it just feels difficult as I don’t know how long it will last for and the thought of doing this again is rubbish!

This is really a bit of a moan. Anyone had the same? When did you start to feel better?

  • Hi  sorry to hear you’re not feeling right. I’ve had 2 x EC now. I had something very similar to what you describe after the first one, around about day 5/6 particularly in the evening when I went to bed. My stomach and abdomen felt really uncomfortable, kind of like really bad trapped wind (nice!) but worse. Also constipation which finally sorted itself after a shedload of prunes, prune juice and dried apricots on Day 7. Stomach ache went after that.

After my second EC (on 11th March) following advice from BCN, I took a small dose of Lactulose every evening from the day of treatment until the following Tuesday, so for 6 days, and did not have the same issues. Everything has been ahem, moving smoothly since then and no tummy ache.

Might be worth a word with your BCN/GP to see if Lactulose might be suitable for you?

Hope you feel better soon xx
