I’m due for a lumpectomy x2 same breast on Monday and I’m bricking it
im having a snb as well what I don’t understand they do a snb to see if it’s spread
but then remove lymph nodes to send to path lab to see if it’s spread
then wait a nail biting 2-3 weeks for results
why do I have two checks? I’m so unclear about it all
any advice please
I recently had the same thing . They have to check the spread if any . I think you will find it is a routine - in their view- operation . My top advice is make sure you have plenty of pillows to support you in bed . Also take a pillow fir the journey home . I had my results within two weeks but I would say they often have a pretty good idea of what they are dealing with before the op
Hi Sumner welcome to the forum. You will most likely have the Lumpectomy and SNB removal in the same surgery. You will only need to have more lymph nodes removed if the SNB comes back with any evidence of Cancer if not it will just be the SNB and no further lymph nodes removed.
The way they explained it to me is that The Sentinel Node is the first node and the soldier node so protecting us from disease and infection so if no Cancer in the Sentinal Node then it has not spread any further. Hope that makes sense. The lump and Sentinal node will go then to Pathology to be checked and this is why the 2 week delay it can take up to 10 days for this to be reported on so saying 2 weeks gives a few days leeway.
