Hi All,

I'm new to all this and am struggling to know I'm making the right choices. I have found the chat forum and all your stories so much help so far so thought I'd see if anyone has had similar issues.

I'm newly diagnosed with ER+ HER- grade 2, 4cm dcis + 3cm invasive breast cancer and have been told I have to have a mastectomy. I've just about got to grips with the fact I have cancer but then your asked to make decisions about reconstruction and  I'm finding it difficult to know what to do.  I'm a 34DD and have been offered immediate reconstruction using my back muscle. I'm aware this won't give me the full volume I need straight away  but it  does give me something to work with in future. Has any one else had this done? I'm being steered away from implant due to threat of radiotherapy. I'd welcomed information on what outcomes others have had with immediate reconstruction of this type.

  • Hi

I haven't had a reconstruction using my back but had DIEP 3 months ago (using stomach), your diagnosis sounds similar to mine though treatment is very different nowadays thanks to blummin' covid! See my profile for cancer gubbins.

I've sent you a friendship request as can point you to a really useful source of info where there are ladies who've had the same op as you're considering (and which was invaluable to me during DIEP).

Not sure your reasons for wanting immediate op (I was quite happy to have a delayed one) but its also a consideration to wait so you can research more & get your head around the situation...however one obvious downside is NHS waiting lists of course.

My secret? Being daft & staying positive.

    1. Thanks for the reply, I too thought about taking the same option as you but I'm a real pear shape and there's much more to take round the lower back and bum area.... But your right Covid is a factor and does limit my choices, they say waiting lists are going to be horrendous. I'd appreciate the link to the info though, thanks again for answering.
