Has anyone had the covud vaccination yet while still having chemotherapy? If so did you have any side effects?

Going to have mine on Saturday ( the Oxford Astra Zenicka) and am also interested in side effects. I’ve been told headache and fatigue is likely- got that already with the chemo!!

  • Hi I had the Pfizer Biontech last Sunday and had a sore arm for about 24hrs but apart from that I was fine .

If it helps my 26 residents and 19 staff have all had their first dose and overall no side effects but some sore arms and headache. 2 complained of nausea. Nothing that lasted more than a couple of days.

I know they aren't going through treatment but I hope it gives you a bit of reassurance.

I had mine in December and just a sore shoulder for me.

Thanks I just know z few people who have had a high temperature with the aches and pains and I can't de with that on top of side effects from chemotherapy

  • Hi StarsAl

I had mine 10 days ago on the way home from Chemo.  I really didnt fancy it then however, as my Oncologist felt it should be within a few days of having had my bloods done, I accepted a cancellation from my medical centre which I took while having Chemo.  Was Okay for a few days then felt my abit of mild swelling on the back of my knees.  Got slightly bigger but also uncomfortable while at the same time noticing all other lymth node areas getting sore and tight!!!!!  After landing in hospital to check I didnt have an infection and doing some research I realised its a side effect of the Oxford vaccine albeit an uncommon one (1 in 100) not that uncommon really!!!  Apparently can take between 2 and 4 weeks to clear and doing daily self massage to try and help Lymth drainage.

YIP.... of course Im gonna get an unusual side effect!!!!!!  Gonna get scunnered of saying' why not me' one of these days!!!  Anyhow apart from that all else is okay and I wouldn't even consider not getting it even though we dont know what level of protection it will give us.  Im 2 sets of 6 chemo's down so thinking ill prpbably get the second one after my last chemo and hopefully get some longer lasting protection then.  Sorry about the Essay!!!   Good Luck to all and hopefully no sideeffects for you xx

  • I had the Oxford AZ covid vaccination yesterday,  I'm midway between cycles 1 & 2 of EC chemo.  Zero side effects, nothing, no sore arm, not a thing.

Edited to add, 48 hours later a bit of a sore arm, but hardly anything

Thanks for your reply,  I actually contracted covid in January thankfully it was a mild dose but I was worried about vaccine. I have actually booked in for this Thursday 5th cycle of 6 chemotherapy cycles is tomorrow so fingers crossed

  • I had my vaccine on the 6th Feb, I'm on cape oral chemo, I didn't have any side effects. X

  • Hi StarsAl

I had the Astra Zenica Covid vaccine on on Saturday. I am 3 cycles of EC down and about to start Docetaxel plus trastuzumab and pertusumab tomorrow. Checked in advance with specialist onco nurse after getting appt from GP - just to make sure that it was ok . She said yes, that they had been given guidance on this. She advised that there was no preference with respect to vaccine type and to go for it.

Tender arm at site of jab for a couple of days. Apart from that, fine. Hope that this helps.
