I felt it would be a good idea to have a thread for this which people can use to ask questions, especially about side effects.

  • Hi  , sorry you’re now having eye problems, agree these tablets are such a double edged sword for many of us. I sort of hate my Anastrozole but stick with it for the hopeful prevention of recurrence and as it’s the ‘devil I know’.
Just wanted to say that I think  I’ve read other posts where people had to wait for one medication to get out of their system before starting another? Just a word of caution but maybe you’ve checked this already and of course I could be wrong, I haven’t changed mine so no direct experience. Love and hugs, HFxx

  • Hi Rozalia. I have been on Anestrozole since September but haven’t encountered any problems with eyesight. In fact I had eye test in December and it was best eye test for ages, I could almost read the bottom line.  I had cataract surgery in 2021 on both eyes but my cataracts were caused by my age. Most of us will develop cataracts but they usually don’t affect our eye sight for years. It is worrying if Tamoxifen does affect eyesight. Such a mine field with these medications.

  • Thank you for the reply.BTW I am on exemestane. I have growing cataracts but this doesn't account for the extent of my eye problems xx

  • I had phone call with pharmacist this morning and was told they can no longer use the field in notes to authorise specific brands but offered private prescription at £80 plus £16 prescription fee! This has now been referred to doctors meeting today and a doctor will ring on Tuesday with result.

Pharmacist suggested using other brands and painkillers for side effects and my response was NO MORE PILLS! Will wait and see what doctor says on Tuesday. For three years I have managed to get Accord from pharmacy - why now?

  • I had a similar issue with Tesco this week, I was told that they can't ring to place an order for a specific brand anymore.

  • I GET THE ACCORD BRAND FROM ASDA PHARMACY. IF THEY DONT HAVE THEM THEY ORDER IN FOR ME.  BOOTS AND OTHER LOCAL CHEMISTS CARNT BE BOTHERED !!!

  • Thanks for that, when I was prescribed tamoxifen, I wasn't told to pause letrozole.  Although I only took 4 or 5 tamoxifen, I think it is still kicking around.  I am due to see the surgeon tomorrow so plan to ask him.  No response from the oncologist yet, not sure I expect one (different hospital for radiotherapy).  My blurry eyes improved but some fatigue remains, nothing like I experienced on Sunday.  Anyone else taking letrozole who has osteoporosis?

  • I was given 'Amarox' last week, never heard of this brand since starting on letrozole late 2021. I've had Manx, Accord, SunPharma, Glenmark supplied by my local chemist who seems able to supply a brand but then it  changes to yet another brand. For example, I can have Accord or SunPharma for several months but Manx or Glenmark will be supplied once or twice within those months. Already wondering which brand I'll be given next month. Women are just expected to put up with this Letrozole "lucky dip" and those in the medical field should pay more attention to our views on this matter.

  • Hi Gardenia,

I have just started Letrozole. I take meds for my Osteoporosis. Just found out yesterday my result from Oncotype DX, I don't need chemo. So relieved, radiotherapy in March.

I have had problems with brands for my son's Epilepsy, getting the wrong brand led to more seizures. So I know this one pretty well. X

  • Thanks for confirming that Sabrina and glad to hear you don't need to have chemo x
