Questions after a biopsy

HI

I am so scared I went for an appointment last Thursday about a lump by my armpit.  They said it was lumpy tissue, but since I was over 40 I could go for a mammogram and then go home!.  I went along to the mammogram (painful experience) but did not think too much of it.  I was told to go back to the waiting room as I would have a scan as well just to be sure.  Next I get taken back into one of the mammogram rooms to be told and shown that they had found a suspicious mass in my breast and now needed to take more direct images.  So I had a second mammogram.  I must admit from this point I went into a daze and just seemed to go with the flow!  I then went back into the waiting room.  Again I was called in to have my scan.  The lady doing the scan was quite short and abrupt with me while she was scanning the area I had originally thought was an issue.  She told me there was nothing there.  She then asked to look at the mammogram images and everything changed, she could not be nicer.  She then explained everything and said she was going to have to take 5-6 biopsies and also put in a marker.  I was then told I would have to have a 3rd mammogram to make sure the marker was in the right place and then I would have to go back to see the consultant I had originally seen.  3 hours later I was sat back in the room with the consultant who was as shocked as me that this had been found the opposite side to what we had spoken about before.  She explained that my results would be discussed over the next couple of weeks and due to Covid the chances are I would get a phone call.  After taking all of that in I returned home, still in shock.  The next day I received a call to book me in for my follow up appointment in the Renal Department and to let me know I would be called on Wednesday by the consultant.  After my long message, my question is Why have I got to go to the Renal Department for an appointment? as this was not explained to me, but to be fair I am still so in shock I did not ask.

Thank you.  This is all so new to me I am trying to find out as much as possible.

  • That’s strange? But so very sorry you’re here....

if I were you I would query the department, perhaps give the breast care department a phone call and explain the referral you’ve had and see if it’s just an error?

Hope they sort it out for you

sending you a big hug xxx
