Hi all, I was given the results of my biopsies yesterday and I have cancer. The last 3/4 weeks I have had nausea, is this normal, is there anything I can do as this is most days, everyday. I havent even started treatment yet!

Thank you

  •      Hello and welcome. I'm sorry you have found yourself here but this a good froup to have found for support.

You have had a long wait for a definite diagnosis. During that time, I expect you have been in a bit of a shocked state. Most of us find that the idea of having cancer is a numbing one. One we weren't anticipating. Then there are so many tests in quick succession and all that waiting for results ..........I think you may find some of the nausea disappears now you know where you heading. Your oncologist will outline a treatment plan based on the biopsy results. There are many variables these days based on the cancer analysis so I won't discuss them now. Some are less pleasant than others.....although everyone reacts differently and some people have very little interruption to their daily routine........but the end result these days is often a sucessful recovery. You may still have a few more nauseous days ahead but this time you will know what is causing them and feel more in control. Time will pass more quickly than you imagine too.....I have just , yesterday, had my five year clear of cancer mammogram. It seems only a few months ago I was in your position.

So, keep in touch. Ask any questions and never be afraid to express your feelings. There is always someone around to listen. The Awake thread may give you a laugh and is more chatty. If you need chemo or radiotherapy there are threads for those which others sharing your experiences at the same time post on.....very helpful for day to day support .....

I hope you feel a little better today and more reassured about what is happening to your body.....but if the nausea continues......mention it to your GP or your BCN because there are some excellent tablets these days which will work quite quickly to prevent it. I take metoclopramide for vertigo and it works rapidly for me.

    Take care. Stay safe.

    Love  Karen

    Good morning.

I too have been suffering from new nausea and vomiting and ended up speaking to my BCN about it. It has been related to stress around tests and the unknown.

As I have felt more in control (although not really in control) it has eased off. Having a treatment plan a plan of action has helped. I still have to be careful but for the most part it's improved.

As Karen has said though if you find it too much then get yourself some meds which will make it more comfortable. Goodness knows your going through enough without the rest of your body putting up a protest.

    1. So sorry that you find yourself here but it is a good place for advice, company and simply to help you to not feel alone in this situation we never wanted to find ourselves in.
This is probably the most stressful experience you have been through and waiting for results is undoubtedly the most stressful part of it. Anxiety and stress can cause some fairly severe physical symptoms and the nausea is likely to be a manifestation of that stress. I have dealt with anxiety and panic attacks for much of my adult life and have learned to recognise the mental and physical symptoms and how to handle them. But I have struggled since my initial diagnosis. Only yesterday I felt perfectly fine and healthy and had spent the morning working and concentrating on things other than cancer. An unexpected call from my surgeon’s secretary with an appointment time conjured up an almost immediate headache from nowhere which was hard to shift.
Do speak to your BCN about your nausea and, if necessary your gp. Your BCN may be able to calm some of your worries and is there to answer your questions. Simply talking may start to help the nausea. Good luck and hope that your treatment goes well
