Hello, I am due to start my first round of Chemo next week and have been offered the Cold cap. I have read through many entries on this site and still can't make my mind up.

Does anyone have a positive experience of using a Cold Cap?

If I do decide to go ahead (excuse the pun!) has anyone got any hints or tips to make it more bearable please?

Thanking you in advance Stuck out tongue winking eye

  • Hi, I’d definitely recommend trying the cold cap.  I recently wrote about my experience in another thread HERE so please take a look and see if that helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions and I’d be happy to help!

  • I found the cold cap easy to tolerate. Although ai did lose quite a lot of hair I carried on with it because I read that it can protect the follicles and prevent them dying so that your hair can grow back. I am 18 months post-chemo and my hair is back to normal now. If you’re worried about tolerating the cold then a couple of paracetamol seem to help. Good luck Wink x

  • I have just completed my first chemo today and I cold capped. And I managed fine. No headache or brain freeze! Even asked if machine was working okay! Only issue I had was a heavy head feeling, it’s cold but I found it fine. As others said first 10-15mins was slightly more uncomfortable.

can’t not say if it worked! Another 2 weeks they say before I will know!

my nurse said if you suffer from migraines or vertigo then you will have more issues!

  • Hi ,

Nothing ventured nothing gained in my book.  I tried and yep it was cold ( not a surprise) but definitely bearable...reckon I lost c 40% of hair and could have 'survived' with that but it became far too tedious not being able to style it for fear of more bare follicles so embraced a grade 2.  See what happens to you as we all react differently to everything where cancer/treatments etc are involved.
