Hi recently started chemo and straight away had trouble with the cannula so had a picc-line put in , I new nothing of this before the day it happened, they phoned and said your line is going in to day, hadn't been notified or discussed just get there is happening now, so I went it was fine until 12hours later when they changed the dressing then it hurt and itched, they now have me on a sensitive dressing that's better but I can be sitting doing nothing and I feel like l am being stabbed by little tiny needles, any information would be helpful, I am so scared when the change the dressing.

I too had similar issues with the picc line, don’t know if yours will be the same. It took a few weeks to settle and felt those pains too, they told me it was the nickel in the picc settling in. After a while it settled down and have had no issues and mine has been in since July. I would just see how it goes and hopefully it will settle

    Good luck

It will settle :) I has to switch to the sensitive dressings too and that helped a lot. I also found that the orange part rubs on my skin so I now ask the nurse to put a little bit of the white dressing (gauze?) Underneath the orange plastic part and the tube to stop it rubbing, that helps a lot. Some of the nurses are not keen on doing this...but it's my arm Wink hope that helps a little?

Sorry to hear you’re having this trouble. If you haven’t already got one, ask your district nurse for a prescription for a Limbo waterproof protector. It is a thick plastic sleeve to cover your arm with in the shower. I had to use clingfilm for the first couple of months which was a nuisance. The plastic sleeve makes life so much easier. Best of  luck.
