Hi all. Just looking for some advice around alternatives to Tamoxifen please. I had stage 1 Lobular BC 3 and half years ago requiring a partial mastectomy and radiotherapy. I’ve been taking Tamoxifen just over 3 yrs. Three months ago I had a small period like bleed and visited the gyni who identified a thickening and large polyp that I’ve had removed. The BC advised coming off Tamoxifen until the results of the gyni biopsy was completed. All biopsies have come back clear. My gyni said this is a direct result of taking Tamoxifen and doesn’t want me to go back on it. The BC nurses say there is no alternative as I am still in the menopause. Does anyone who has been in this situation have any advice please. I’m currently awaiting a phone consultation with the BC oncologist.
Thank you so much
If they think you'd be at risk of a recurrence without an oestrogen blocker you could ask if Goserelin plus an aromase inhibitor is an option? https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/treatments-and-drugs/goserelin-for-breast-cancer
On the other hand, they might feel you've gotten enough protection in the time you've been taking it.
