Hi all, I was diagnosed with HER2+ breast cayOctober 2018 had   surgery with reconstruction Thumbsup , chemotherapy and radiotherapy all ok. On letrasol now and had been experiencing some joint pain in knees, hips and fingers but told to expect that which I have been coping with so far.  The last couple of weeks however my hip/ leg has been really painful and taken paracetamol but no improvement !  I ended up at gp last Tuesday and had an X-ray on Friday got prescribed ibuprofen and paracetamol which I have been taking but still not much relief :-(

I am waiting on the results hopefully on Tuesday as we have bank holiday on Monday. Am I wrong to be thinking the worst ? I stupidly had googled hip pain !!

kind regards

  • I'm not going to be much help here with the side effects from Letrosol because my cancer was TNBC. However, I have read a lot of comments on here which suggest this drug is not consistent in the problems it causes. Sometimes people suddenly develop reactions which require a change of drug. Sometimes it's the brand of drug that's been changed by the pharmacy. Sometimes the Letrozole has aggravated other conditions which would probably have developed but more slowly. Paracetamol never works with joint pains. No wonder it's getting worse. For joint pain you'll need to be prescribed something much stronger. ( I have other problems which require pain relief so know a bit about tablet strength!)

You've been here before so you know that the waiting is horrendous. Why you need to be waiting for an x ray result I shall never understand.....I live in a country where I take both the x ray and result home with me.....but waiting is the UK system so you will have to. Tuesday is only another three days. Don't  look up google anymore. There are so many possibilities to explain the pain. Joint pain can suddenly deteriorate and increase because suddenly the cartilage wears through and the bones are rubbing together. Up until that point, they has something to rub on. That's just another explanation. We can't second guess the cause so you must stop trying to guess the outcome. I know you will worry but try not to......

I shall be thinking of you and hope someone who takes Letrozole answers you soon.

    Cyber hugs. Karen

  • , I have been on Letrozole for 10years, and so far it has worked in that I am fortunately in remission. It causes joint, muscle, ligament and bone pain. It seeks out your weak skeletal points, once I knew what was causing it i.e, not secondaries, I found I could cope, I keep walking, and find that once you get over the initial stiffness it improves the more you exercise, I have had to get very specialist podiatry help fir my very painful feet, but once I got my insoles I was much better, You have to watch for osteoporosis and make sure they send you fir a dexa scan which needs repeating 3 yearly. I am considering taking it fir longer than the 10years as breast ca can metastasise late, and I want to discourage that!,,!! Good luck xx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
