I was diagnosed on 5th March 2020 from a routine Mammogram, then had to wait until 2nd July for a single Mastectomy because of Covid. I was initially told I would only need Radiotherapy but having been referred to a local Oncologist, who did an Endopredict on the original biopsies, I'm now starting 3 sessions of EC Chemo on Monday followed by up to 12 sessions of Paclitaxel.

Feeling really nervous about it now, especially as Covid is increasing again. Not had a Chemo talk from the hospital. Have been reading up on it online but still not sure what to expect. I'm having a PICC line put in just before the Chemo session. Just need a bit of encouragement really. Thanks.

    Hi Sunshine365

Your journey does seem really long - from March but sounds like you are nearly there... one more big hurdle! I started chemo at the end of August, I have my 3rd EC next week before switching to Docataxil. I was really nervous about starting but actually I’ve not found it too bad so far. Everyone is different but the meds they give you for side effects are really very good and after a couple of days of feeling not great you tend to feel better. I am a mum of two and I am still working full time.

Do as much as you can when you can and rest when you need too  is my advice. As for COVID it’s worrying, I go out for walks but avoids shops etc when I can. Always wear a mask and have shares in hand sanitiser! My oncologist advised that when the kids get back from school they should shower first so they do that and my partner does too as he works in a hospital so we keep as safe as we can. It’s worrying but for me having the chemo and getting better is more important so would worry more without it.

You will be fine, stay strong and positive. Remember chemo is going to help you beat cancer for good - even if it makes you feel grotty - it’s your friend - it’s there to help you!! You can do it and we will all be here to help and support you on your journey!

    Xxx

    Hi Sunshine355

How did your first chemo go? I am starting my chemo on Tuesday and my treatment plan is similar to yours 4 cycles of EC every 3 weeks followed by 12 weekly cycles of Paclitaxel. X

    Hello Chloe71

My first chemo went really well, I had 5 anti sickness tablets to take atvvarious times of the day for between 2 and 5 days and they worked, no sickness at all. I've had some side effects but the worst one is the fatigue.

I'm having my second dose on Monday. I used the cold cap at the first session but didn't like it so won't be using it again on Monday, I had really thick short hair but its really thinned out this weekend and is not in a good condition so I'm preparing myself to lose it all next week. I've got a wig referral form but will probably not have the energy to go for the fitting next week so hopefully the following week.

Good luck with your first session, honestly it was fine and all the nursing staff are lovely in the cancer centre I'm under Blush
