Hello you lovely people. Hi after having 2 dcis which followed  with a mastectomy in January 2019 I am now due to have a delayed diep next month. I am having a video call with my surgeons later and wondering if there were any questions apart (from what could go wrong!!  and recovery) anyone wished theyshould have asked. Thankyou

  • Hi

I haven't had my DIEP yet but its due in Dec and I've already had initial consultation and asked many questions, some are below

    - will I go home with drains, how many?

    - what 'equipment' will you provide - bra's, support pants etc, what do I need to buy & what size?

    - see pictures of what you're having..before & after so you know what to expect

    - How many phases of operations can you expect, what's involved in each & what's the timescales in between?

-how long will I be in hospital?

    - What will I have re bandages when sent home?  When will I see someone post op to check on progress, who do I contact if there's a problem?

    - what painkillers given, how & for how long?

    - how long is op?

    - how long will I need off work, how long before exercise, what exercise?

    - will I be given special physio type exercises?

    - how many DIEPs do you do a year, what's your failure rate?

    - what can I do now to improve recovery post op?

    - timescales for op & is there a risk to these re CV19?

    - How will I feel during recovery?

    - What happens on day of op?  Will I have catheter, constipation, flowtron boots?  What checks carried out on new boob after op?

    - when will I be expected to get out of hospital bed?

    - Will I need to self inject blood thinners after leaving hospital, how & how long expected to be in hospital

Even if you've had your video by now I would hope you've been allocated a nurse who can ask any other questions you may now have.  Good luck!
