I'm newbie - diagnosed in March this year with invasive breast cancer. I had surgery at the end of March and immediately reacted to the blue dye they used and had a massive anaphylactic shock.
I have heard this is extremely rare and just wondered if anyone else experienced this?
Unfortunately after my chemo I will need additional surgery because they didn't achieve clear margins, and the prospect of further surgery is worrying.
Hi Kaybel17
I am sorry to hear you had an anaphylactic shock to the blue dye used in surgery. It must have been terrifying to come round from anaesthetic to find out what had happened. You can be certain they won’t put any of that in you ever again! Unfortunately it’s not uncommon to need a second operation because margins weren’t clear. Whilst the surgeon can see the edges of the obvious tumour, the problem is stray cells that can only be seen under a microscope. I read somewhere the repeat rate can be as high as 20%. A second operation will probably go in through the scar you already have and will involve less surgery. I can quite understand why you feel the way you do about a second operation, do talk through your fears with your medical team both before and on the day.
