Hi!

Massive hugs to everybody going through their own battles.

I'm starting chemo on Monday 11th May and barely slept last night from the stress of it all.

I've not had a pleasant experience with some breast care nurses and my oncologist at my hospital. Thankfully the oncology nurses at the actual chemo unit seem a lot nicer Pray

I will be having 8 cycles - first 4 will be EC and the last 4 Docetaxal. Although, I've been told that it will be reduced to 3 of each if I'm not coping with it.

I've prepared as much as I can and at first hairloss was my biggest concern. I will be trying the cold cap for as long as possible as I would like a quicker regrowth. I have a really nice wig that is ordered and will be getting styled early June.

However, due to the issues I've had at the hospital and the dismissive attitudes I've come across I am now concerned that they just won't look after me if I get ill from the chemo.

Is anybody else struggling with similar thoughts? I've spoken to my GP who was quite good and ran through the signs of blood clots and infections and what to do. I'm also petrified that my mood will become so low on the chemo that I won't want to look after myself either.

I'm hoping that this experience won't be as bad as I'm anticipating

  • Hi

I hope I can reassure you that they will look after you. Starting with the people on the day unit, they see all sorts of issues and are very used to dealing with whatever happens during treatment. You should have a 24 hour help line number. If you have need to call it they will triage you and take it from there. There’s usually a dedicated oncology assessment suite where they can assess you in person, and oncology inpatient wards if you need to be admitted.

You are unlikely to experience every side effect listed, and on 3-weekly cycles you will have at least a week of feeling normal each cycle. Stay well hydrated and try to get outside, exercise really helps.
