Awaiting pathology results from SNB

Hi I was diagnosed with DCIS grade 3 4cm in Oct 25. Had lumpectomy in Dec 25 in left breast & reduction mammoplasty in right breast. Surgery went well so when I went for my pathology results in Jan I was so shocked when told I had 11mm grade 2 IDC in left breast & 2.8mm invasive lobular carinoma in right breast. Had SNB 2 weeks ago & have my results tomorrow. I am so terrified that it will be bad news that it has spread into my lymph nodes. I also feel angry as I feel I was diagnosed wrongly & wasn't prepared for this at all. It took me months to get my head round the DCIS diagnosis but was given a lot of hope as told the cancer hadn't spread outside the duct. Has anyone else had this experience? Also I understand having 2 different cancers is quite rare.

  • Hi   I can absolutely understand your anger, frustration and worry, I would certainly be feeling the same as you. I have heard of others in the group here who have had different results after surgery to their initial diagnosis and I guess in some cases only a pathology result can be reliable, but of course that's a complete shock and takes time to come to terms with.

Don't forget the lovely folks at Macmillan are at the end of the phone, for a chat or advice or just to rant to.  You can call them, 8am to 8pm daily on 0800 808 0000.  This might help you at this difficult time.

I hope you now have the remainder of your results and a clear plan for the way forward. Best wishes

  • Hi Irishgirl16

Thank you for your reply & best wishes. I have taken your advice & rang the Mcmillian helpline. I was told last week by the oncologist that it is recommended I have chemo, immunotherapy, radiotheraphy & hormone therapy. I am in shock that I now need all this treatment. It feels unreal & scary. It is hard to get my head round but am determined to try to beat this awful disease. I find strength in knowing I am not alone in this struggle. Trying to keep positive! Hugs to all going through this.
