Hi all,
I’m 29 years old and 2 days ago I found a small pea sized lump just above my nipple on my right breast. It feels round and moveable, which I’ve read is a good sign as cancer is usually non moveable and has less defined edges, although unsure how accurate this is!
I do have other lumps in the same breast that I found as a teenager and was told they are fibroadenomas, however this new lump feels different. Can you be prone to fibroadenomas? Are you likely to develop more if you already have some?
I have also been feeling tenderness and itchiness in the same breast. I have also had some pain in the right side of my chest today, although it’s highly likely this is anxiety since finding the lump!!
I have an appointment booked with my GP tomorrow morning. Can anyone advise what is likely to happen at this appointment? Will I be sent for further testing? I’m so nervous they wont take me seriously and I’ll be left a nervous wreck with no answers! Can I request a referral myself? I’m so nervous and scared and my mind is going 100mph! When I was seen for my fibroadenomas I remember going for an ultrasound but can’t really remember much about it! Im also worried about waiting times. For those who were referred, how long did you wait between GP appointment and breast clinic appointment?
apologies for the million questions but I just need to hear some real life experiences to better understand the process.
thanks so much!xx
I'm so sorry you have found a lump.
I think Cazh24 is right, that your dr should refer you for further tests.
However, you must be prepared to insist on being fast tracked - the aim of fast track is to get you seen in 2 weeks or less.
When I went to my GP with, what I thought was, just another cyst - she confirmed that she thought it was a cyst too.
I was ok with that and would have been happy to leave it. However, she decided to fast track me to the breast care unit just to be sure.
The breast surgeon agreed that it felt like a cyst, but just to be sure he sent me for a mammogram.
It was, in fact cancer.
What I'm trying to say is, ask to be fast tracked, just to be sure.
sending you hugs xx
Hi, after finding a lump last January whilst away in Italy, I went to my GP in February as i thought it was getting bigger-who examined me and referred me to the breast clinic there and then, saying that I would be seen within 2 weeks.
My appointment came through the next day for a week later. No hanging about, and it all just happened so smoothly and professionally. I was told by the breast surgeon after the mamogram, ultrasound and biopsies on the first visit that she thought that it was cancer, but needed to wait on the biopsy results to be sure.
It was!!!! So I had surgery at the end of march, and a re-excision early may, 5 sessions of radiotherapy at the end of July, and was very well looked after by everyone.
Im feeling great now, and have just come back from another 2 month trip to Italy.
Hope things arent as bad as you fear xxx
