Hi, I have recently been informed that I am not able to have Radiotherapy following my breast cancer op and chemo, after initially being told I would . I have been offered the targeted therapy drug Ribociclib and Zoledronic Acid infusions. Has anybody any experience of these treatments?

  • I’m currently having both. I’ve been taking Ribociclib for a year and I’ve had 3infusions of Zolendronic acid with three more to go.

I’ve had side effects after the infusions so now set aside three days after each one to allow for feeling unwell (headaches, shakes etc). That hasn’t put me off completing the course. I understand most people don’t have problems after the first session.

I was taking two Ribociclib tablets a day but after a series of severe headaches the dose was reduced to one a day. I continue to have side effects but, again, nothing that puts me off completing the course.

Please don’t worry. If, like me, you can get up every day, even with painful joints etc, thinking “this is better than the alternative” it must be worth it.

  • Hi, I’m also having both of these. I’m just finishing my first lot of Ribciclib and the only thing I’ve found is a feel slightly sick every now and again, also very tired and a few headache but nothing too bad.
I was poorly on my first zoledronic acid had the holes and a horrible headache, it’s lasted two days then I was ok.

  • Hi

I had my first Zoledronic Acid at the same time as my second Paclitaxel and I ran a pretty high temperature the next day (39 deg C) and felt pretty rubbish. I’ve probably had 5 infusions so far - the last on New Year’s Eve - and honestly I’ve had very little reaction after that first one - I might feel slightly below par the day after. I’ve got 4 more to come over the next 2 years.

I’m sure you’ve been given the warning about the rare side-effect which attacks your jaw? You have to have the go-ahead from your dentist before you start and have your teeth checked at regular intervals. However my dentist says he has never seen an incidence of this rare ZA side-effect

    Good Luck
