I had my first treatment scheduled for Monday 5th, started fine with cold cap, steroid, flush and antihistamine but within a couple of minutes of chemo started had a burning sensation in a line across top of abdomen, nausea, horrific back and abdomen pain. The lovely nurses administered adrenaline for anaphylaxis, IV paracetamol to no effect, heat packs which helped and then morphine. When moved to cdu had buscopan injection which helped and it eased. At home now and have appointment with oncologist in a couple of days but I'm supposed to be weekly and I'm worried about what happens next. Has any else had the same please?
Thank you I have my appointment with the oncologist tomorrow I'm hoping they change the drug
Hi there yes I have had several reactions from chemotherapy treatments over the first course of 9 and more recently the second of another 14 this week! ( which will make my oncologist very unhappy ) what they will probably do is adjust your medication on first dose they give it to you full dose all assessment based on weight etc ( that's what my oncologist told me) and like you the first was the worst I couldn't tolerate it so don't despair they don't just carry.on without full assessment of your personal situation best of.luck!
Thank you, my oncologist has changed it to abraxane and carboplatin every 3 weeks, so will try again on wednesday, have to say i am worried it will happen again but i have looked at the abraxane information and it seems less likely. I hope you manage to get reaction free soon, take care x
I'm glad they are switching your treatment my worst reaction was from the red devil and I was quickly switched to carboplatin and docetaxel I still had issues mainly stomach problems which left me completely isolated unfortunately for me my reactions have been fairly ongoing in one way or another with my oncologist scratching her head not knowing what to do with me I'm now receiving kadcyla and herceptin after my newest reaction this week round 2 of 14 I'm just praying I get through! All the best to you!
Hi there , I changed to Abraxane after reacting 3 times to paclitaxel. Was terrified of reacting again but nurses reassured me it was pretty much unheard of. I was fine and actually the Abraxine is a lot kinder to the body but just as effective. I felt quite well on it!
