Hi All
My first post here, I'm half way through my treatment I have had a full right removal with reconstruction, so now have a very large wobbly 50 year old left boob and a young small perky right boob.
I have had my tumor test results back, and my first meeting with oncologist. I'm struggling to understand all the treatment pathways( I'm a detail person.)The biggest issue I have is a small benefit to chemo only 2.9% on my Oncotype test. As I'm covered by Bupa I have access to a drug that replaces some of the benefit. The consultant is indicating the benefit is so low he would be comfortable with not doing Chemo. I am finding really hard to decide as don't want any regrets but also don't want to put the body through such an ordeal.
Has anyone else had a low benefit to chemo ?
I'm going back to see oncologist or giving myself more time to decide.
I had a low oncotype score of 19 for my largest tumour and benefit of chemo was up to a max of 3 % so similar to you. The oncologist, in an initial meeting, said the decision was mine re whether I wanted to have chemo or not and it depended how risk adverse I was. I was really unsure what to do as I felt I should be guided by the medical experts. I then had a second meeting with the oncologist and asked him what he would do if he were in my position. He said he wouldn’t have chemo and that anyway, if I were to need it at a later point, chemo would be more effective due to resistance that would be built up if I had it now. Plus it’s possibly a case of the risks outweigh the benefits. I am going to be starting Letrozole and Ribociclib soon which are both available on the NHS. Not easy, but good luck with your decision!
My GP was hesitant to prescribe exemestane when the oncologist asked him to change it from letrozole as a result of side effects I was experiencing. The GP said it would have to be cleared by the partners and he’d let me know. I assume it was a matter of relative cost.
Re Ribociclib, my oncologist said the NHS only approved it for certain cancers (mine wasn’t one of those) despite it being approved by the EU for use there.
Fortunately BUPA approved payment after receiving a supporting report/evidence from the multi disciplinary team caring for me.
Thanks for responding, my oncologist said he was comfortable with me not having chemo. It something in my brain saying don't regret your decisions. I'm going to see him again before I decide. Hope you doing ok with your journey, the best of luck to you. Take care xx
Take care, good luck with your journey. I'm usually very decisive but struggling at this point. Boob off wasn't a problem, but this is playing on mindxxx
