Hi everyone
Not sure what to say. Feeling very overwhelmed with the diagnosis I received yesterday after a call back from a routine mammogram. Had ultrasound and biopsies taken last week. I now know I have the estrogen.receptive type of breast cancer. Will def get a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy then.hormone therapy. I am waiting on.the HER2 results to see if I will need herceptin and therefore chemotherapy.
Would like to talk to people in a similar position.
Thanks
Hey.. sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It's really hard to get your head around everything. I found out 4th June. IDC oestrogen positive and her2 negative. I had lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy 26th June and a reincision today as didn't get clear margins. I get results in 3 weeks. Cancer was only found in one lymph node out of 3 so that was good news.
If clear move onto chemo for 4 months and then radiotherapy after that with immunotherapy too and hormone blockers.
It's a lot so do a bit of research but try and keep busy with non cancer stuff too and try to take one step at a time.
I was really nervous about the first operation as I've never had one before but it was soooo much easier than I expected. Don't worry about lumpectomy. After 4 weeks I was swimming at a hotel spa!!
The op today was fine I was much more relaxed.
Everyone on here is so lovely and supportive. You'll get through this, you'll be fine.
Take care.
Hi
I had exactly the same thing, but my mammogram didn’t show anything. It was only the scan and biopsies did !
Lumpectomy and the sentinel node removed and I am thankful that there was no spread around the outer or in the sentinel node !
HR2 results were clear but it was an oestrogen positive cancer
I’ve started on letrozole a lot of side-effects I’m suffering and I’m awaiting radiation to start around the end of August. I visit my oncology team on the 14th of August !!
I wishing you get good results ️
please keep us posted,,, there’s always someone lovely to chat to on here x
Hi I was in this position 4 months ago. Went for my 2nd mammogram and got recall. Called in, they were sure it was a cyst and nothing to worry about when they did ultrasound and then biopsy after trying to aspirate- wrong! 3 weeks later I was told I had idc and after that life changed. Saw consultant who told me due to biopsy coming back as grade 3 plus oestrogen +, he wanted to send off for oncotype testing to determine if chemo would be beneficial. Another 2 weeks of waiting for results to come back nice and low at 13, so unless anything came up in results after surgery, I would not likely need chemo.
Had surgery 4 June and sailed through recovery with more discomfort from sentinel node scar to boob scar, but was up and doing normal activities the following day with no need for any painkillers. Told due to backlog at my hospital I had up to 8 week wait for results, they finally came in at 6 weeks. Consultant told me he had got everything out and tests after surgery actually showed it was grade 2 not 3 as originally thought and that it was actually 9mm and not the 11 mm they had seen on ultrasound or the 13mm the mammogram had showed. No spread to lymph nodes either. Will be going onto Anastrozole for at least next 5 years and will need a course of radiotherapy.
Finally got the all clear to go on holiday we had booked before all this, so went home and arranged travel insurance to cover me as ordinary insurance wouldn’t touch me!
Had oncology appointment last week - will need 9 sessions, 5 to whole boob and 4 targeted ones due to different grades in biopsies, starting treatment the day after I get back from holiday. Mon-Fri 1st week then Tues-Fri 2nd week and start anastrozole once home too.
Life spiralled once I found out I had cancer, but the team at my hospital were lovely and explained everything. The waiting on results is the hardest part, once they have all the facts about what they are dealing with you get your plan so know what to expect and when. It moved along really quickly at this stage.
Bedt of luck and keep thinking positive thoughts. The team working with you know what they are doing so go with the flow and have faith in them x
