Hi everyone,
after the worst 2 weeks of my life waiting for results of my biopsy, I was told I have ‘aggressive’ hormone positive cancer and am now awaiting a lumpectomy and lymph removal. I honestly have never felt so scared in my life. Feel like I'm on a rollercoaster. I’m. It good with pain either so feel sick not knowing what’s coming. Can’t even bring myself to read all the info. Got pre op on Sunday and the ‘seed’ Wednesday xx
Hi, my cancer was Hr 7/8 grade 3, PR negative and HER2 negative. I was , like you terrified. In my experience, those two weeks you have just experienced are the worst thing. You second guess everything and what you don’t know you make up in your own head.
I had a therapeutic mammoplasty ( breast reduction) after removing tumour and 7 nodes. One of my nodes had 0.7 micromets and the other 6 were clear. I am due to start 3 rounds of EC and then 3 rounds of doctoral chemotherapy. I had both breast reduced at the same time.
Once your surgery is out of the way just remember, the cancer is out and everything else is preventative. The pain off surgery is not bad at all, just a little discomfort. You will know what is happening and your plan will be in place, all of a sudden it doesn’t seem so scary.
it is such a shock at first but I promise you it gets a little easier once you know what your plan is to be.
good luck x
Hi JN1971 , glad you’ve found us here but sorry for the reason. Definitely stay away from Dr Google, so much is out of date or just wrong. Keep posting here, ask any questions, or just vent! Sending love and a big virtual hug, HFxx
It is so hard not to overthink. I went down the Dr google route and it is the worst thing you can do. Your on this site , just ask on here because there is always someone who has had your experience. Honestly, those two weeks are by far the worst for worrying. Xx
Hi JN1971
You really have done the worst part now with the stress from waiting. I too had an aggressive hormone positive cancer, mine was 5 years ago, I had a lumpectomy where I was told there wasn't a mm of my breast that hadn't been moved around to provide a natural shape and a full lymph node removal. After the lymph node removal they take a look to see how many were actually affected. I had 17 nodes and thankfully just the sentinal node was affected. My cancer was 22mm and was a grade 3. I am now 5 years down the line and hopefully cancer free, my cancer didn't show on a mammogram so I actually have a private MRI scan of the breast and ultrasound just to give me peace of mind on top of the nhs Mammogram. Movement will initially be difficult after your lymph removal and my friends sent me some dry shampoo which was fab. I had radiotherapy and tamoxifen hormone tablets, I didn't have chemotherapy as we were in the midsts of covid. Initially they will give you a drain, attach a tube to you to drain off extra fluids as your lymph nodes have been removed and you will have a bag to collect this fluid. I found this the most uncomfortable part. The lumpectomy was fine but the lymph nodes was sore and cumbersome but it does pass. Just make sure you chill and relax with a nice cuppa in the garden. We don't get many chances to take a step back! sending you love and positive thoughts xx
