Hello and Good afternoon,

As the subject states. This is my 1st thread. I am 4 weeks post-op. Lumpectomy and lymph node removal.

I was informed recently, it has spread to auxiliary lode. So having urgent CT and full body bone scan.

Unfortunately, I havent received what I would call a good standard of care. By that, I mean emails and calls gone unanswered from my BCN. Conflicting advice from care team. So I have been finding myself having to Google answers to my concerns/questions.

Having been informed about this forum, I'm hoping I can receive advice, recomendations from you wonderful people.

I have my first medical and clinical oncology appointments in a couple of weeks. Can anyone explain what happens during these appointments? Ive left voicemails for 2 days asking, as I have not been told anything, and yet to receive a response.

Deodorant debate - yes you can use, or definitely not?!

After the surgery, Ive noticed a complete change and may I say now potent odour. Im using Sanex Zero, body wash yet I never feel clean and fresh. My surgeon said after 3 weeks, its OK to use a roll-on. BCN said not until after treatment. It's getting hotter outside. I would like to keep the remaining friends I have, so telling them to always stay on my leftside. I have purchased Bionsen non-aluminium and paraben free roll-on. Is it safe to use deodorant?

Any advice to either question, is truly appreciated.

Many thanks xx

    1. Hi sorry to hear you’re not getting the support you need - you will get on here where everyone knows how much it helps .

My cancer diagnosis was two years ago and I had. Wide local and excision for a 9 mm lump ,followed  by 15 sessions of Radiotherapy . I have not taken hormone tablets  due to nasty side effects

. I was given a pack of goodies free from my cancer unit and one of the products was a great deodorant . Anyone receiving treatment for breast cancer in the uk is eligible to request a box from a charity called little lifts.org.uk . Have a look at their website and you’ll be able to order one .

As far as your forthcoming meeting is concerned , try to take someone who  can help you to write down information . Make a list of questions you want answered . Try to keep calm and listen to what they say . Deep breathing beforehand will keep you centred .

    good luck and best wishes

  • Thank you, I will definitely have a look at that website.

Hope all is well with you x

  • Hi  I have Faith in Nature products the were good both for my hair and body.  I didn't use deodorants and so I cannot help you there. I had a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction so I was massaging my breast and under my arms all the time.

In terms of appointments my husband came with me. I always made a list of questions.  They were factual and without emotion.  Depending on the doctor some were unhappy with my list but I used it regardless. My son is a surgeon and he said medical people can be phased my the list patients bring. It meant that it would be a an involved consultation.  However he admitted that it was helpful for both people involved in the meeting.

My aim was to come out of the meeting clearer and knowing the plan for my care.

I have a difficult GP practice and on one occasion talked through my issues with Breast Cancer Now.  It was again a rehearsal for the real event.

    All the best

  • Hi, welcome to the forum and your first post, I'm one of the champions in this group and I'm sure you'll find it helpful and supportive.   I'd really encourage you not to Google, there is some outdated, extreme and quite frankly, inaccurate information there.   As an alternative, take a look at the MacMillan website Macmillan website link click here and don't forget you can give the wonderful folks at Macmillan a call on 0800 808 0000 for advice, support or just a listening ear. Best wishes

  • Hi, after my lumpectomy and 3 lymph node removal, on the deodorant issue, the BCN told me I could use a roll on or solid stick type- but not a spray, is it can get into the wound.

I've swapped to  natural deodorant as I used a strong one with aluminum in-which I know isn't good. Fussy was ok-but a bit waxy,  but I have found a cream deodorant in a tin from a company called cosy cottage.  You can put  it exactly where you want it-and it smells gorgeous, but not overpowering.

I git a free sample tin for just postage. They have a website and I think the free sample offer is on there ( I found it on facebook).

I hope all goes well for you xx
