Hi everyone,
I have my lumpectomy next week Monday. And I'm told it's painful. I've got stage 1 Breast cancer. Followed by radiotherapy.
Terrified, and feel quite worried. Anyone comment on how they got through the pain.
Thank you.
We’re all different, each surgery is different and, of course, our tolerance for pain is different but I can honestly say that after day 1, I felt more discomfort than real pain. The first day after the op I took the prescribed painkillers but I never felt unbearable pain.
I hope it’s not as bad as you fear but you’ll be given pain relief. Don’t be afraid to take it. I hope your op goes well.
As to the radiotherapy, I was sore but nothing more than I’d be after an hour too long in the sun again, the cream (Doublebase) I was given really helped
Good luck
I echo what SEE has said. I was a bit uncomfortable after my lumpectomy but didn’t experience any what I would consider to be actual pain. I wasn’t given anything and took some paracetamol for a day or two and didn’t need anything more, but I’m sure you would be prescribed pain relief if needed. Radiotherapy for me was fine with just a tiny bit of pinkness which wasn’t sore at all.
I hope your op and recovery goes smoothly. x
Hi Quietred9 sorry to hear that you have cancer. I found the lumpectomy not to be so painful. I felt the worst under my arm where they took the lymph nodes out. More of a weird heaviness than pain. I am sure that you will find it is okay and not as bad as you thought. Definately do the excercises that they give you . I wish you luck with your op and radiotherapy. x
Hi,
I jade lumpectomy and sentinels removed. I didn't experience any pain. At most, I can describe it as discomfort more than anything. I healed quite quickly with no issues. I was back driving after a couple of weeks.
Good luck with your recovery xx
Hello
I had my lumpectomy last August and sentanal node removal. The pain for me was minimal if you follow all the macmillion nurses advise. I wore the bra I bought from M&S for at least 2 weeks night and day. Did all the exercises they advise too. The Raidiotherapy (not painfull just uncomfortable) in November that made my nipple turn dark red and underneath my boob went black then grey in the last month all pink again. I no longer have cancer yay. Hopefully your experience will be a good one. In my experience the macmillon nurses at the breast care centre always phone me back if I had any concerns after my op. Thinking of you next Monday xx
I've not had a lumpectomy or any kind of breast surgery YET, my plan of attack meeting is tomorrow but I had 6 weeks of radiotherapy on my jaw/mouth/neck area. I burn quite easily in the sun but for the 1st five weeks I only got gradually pinker and I think it was either the final days or afterwards that my skin developed into a burn/broken skin. Within a week, it had healed nearly. I'm diabetic so that might not have helped either. But the radiotherapy team will give you a special cream, ask for more if needed AND USE IT LIBERALLY.
And most importantly GOOD LUCK all ways. Mentally and emotionally as well as physically
Love and hugs xxx
