Hi, my name is Christine, Im 56 and live in Ayrshire, Scotland. Im a Gemini and cant stand Trump!. After a routine mammogram in August 2024 I was diagnosed with the above. I underwent lumpectomy and lymph node removal, followed by a shave excision which still didn't remove all tumour so elected for left mastectomy. I've had 4 x EC three weekly chemo and had my first of four Docetaxil chemo today - awaiting the side effects to kick in. Not going to lie, the surgeries were a piece of cake compared to chemo. I sometimes wonder if I'll ever have any energy to go back to work as at the moment the days where I feel slightly normal are few and far between.
Hi Christine, I’ve only had one round of EC so far. Due another 2 before I move into other type of chemo. I’ve had 2 rounds of surgery. One a lumpectomy and another for lymph node clearance. I agree it’s the fatigue that’s tough with the chemo. Hope this docetaxil proves to be a little easier for you so you have more days feeling better. Take care. X
Hi, thanks for replying. I'm new to the forums even though been on this journey fir 8 months! Hope you find the EC side effects minimal. I think the combination of the chemo and the bone strengthening injections causes the most symptoms. I have to injection Filgrastim for 7 days post chemo. Are you the same? X
Hi Fightlijeagirl,
I also had lumpectomy and sentinels removed, EC chemo radiotherapy and now on Letrozole. I had to do the injection also however I was unable to tolerate the 2nd lot of injections got to day 4 and had horrible side effects. At my next cycle I git the one of injection which does the same as the 7 days but with less side effects. I don't think they offer it as first choice as its apparently expensive is what I was told.
My treatments finished in October. I returned to work phased return February. Still not doing full days. Like you the fatigue from the treatments was awful but I am feeling like myself again still get tired and achy bones and joints from the Letrozole. But it's all doable.
Listen to your body rest when needed. You will feel better again once chemo out system. I think by month 2 after treatment I felt much better.
Good luck with your recovery xx
Hi I had injections but can’t quite remember the name. I’ll double check but yes as soon as I had the injections I felt dizzy and unwell.
