Hello I am new here, I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in December, we have BRCA2 in the family, I had lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy just before Christmas, which came back with high Ki-67, so just started Chemo, and I feel a bit worse for wear. Waiting for results of BRCA test, as if positive will undergo double mastectomy. BTW, I live in Greece, and the General Hospital on Rhodes has been wonderful. I am originally from the UK, my husband is Greek. My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, she is fine, my niece ( her daughter) 3 years ago and is in remission (double mastectomy) now my turn. What do you do when your appetite goes on Chemo, had my first one on Monday, and really can’t stomach food, ok with fruit though?
Hi Micky bk
I lost my appetite also during chemo. I found I was able to tolerate some scrambled egg and at times cereals.
I felt I could eat on the days I was having the steroids and then again the week before next cycle my appetite improved. During chemo eat what you feel you can. If your able to tolerate fruit then go with that it's good for you.
Maybe try some smoothies or I would sip on a cup of soup.
The days I couldn't face food I tried to stay hydrated.
God luck with your treatment and recovery x
Thank you thats sound advice, just taking it hour by hour until my stomach settles and I get over the weariness, I am on a 21 day cycle
Mine was 21 day cycles. I found by day 10 after treatment my appetite improved. However my stomach was iffy all the time. Remember to keep a diary of side effects t take to next appointment. Staff will have a pill for each symptom.
I got extra antisickness IV and stronger tablets before and after chemo. They certainly helped.
Also drink green tea and peppermint tea. They do help.
On the days my gastric system was really bad I just sipped away on peppermint tea and tried to sleep it off. Also ask for buscopan tablets and effervescent paracetamol. These helped also.
Good luck, sending hugs xx
I have extra sickness tablets, just taken one now, and I’m drinking fruit tea which helps too. Not sure if its the sleepy stuff, or the Red Devil thats in the concoction or all together that does it, but I have just woken up too. I wish you all the best with your chemo and thanks for the advice. Hope you feel better soon. Hugs. M
