Hi I’m new to the group going in for a mastectomy tomorrow Dec 11 I was diagnosed on Nov 2 it all seems to be going fast just looking for words of encouragement and just want to know how things went for others going through this.  How do you stay calm

  • Hi , I too am new to the group, I went in for a mastectomy last Wednesday. Be good to yourself and don’t expect too much of yourself.

Initially  was surprised how awake and normal ifelt the first day and day after, however still under the effects of anaesthetic….then shocked by how tired I was day 3 and 4, felt like someone had knocked me over the head with a hammer! My family keep reminding me it’s major surgery.

. the best thing I did the day of op - took a funny book in with me to read …(Alison Hammond ) made things easier …,I laughed I cried…and I’m not trying to be too brave now,

And taking it all one day at a time , x

  • I have 2 different types of cancer in my left breast one is her2+ and then there is a tumour 1 cm in size they suggesteged a mastectomy then possibly 2 to 6 rounds of chemo no radiation my doctor doesn’t think there is lymph node involvement and 6 months of immunotherapy and a pill I take for 5 years

  • I had mastectomy with DIEP reconstruction 5 years ago and everything was absolutely fine. Just follow the instructions given by your team. You'll be fine. Unfortunately I have breast cancer again in the other breast so likely to have to go through it again.

  • So sorry to hear that hope you are doing well

  • I had the same two different tumours and they’ve have taken all the lymph nodes too. I don’t know what they plan for afterwards - dependent on what they’ve taken away…so feel a bit in limbo . Pleased that you know beforehand - as Fitzgerald 67 said, just follow the team, draw from their strength and humbleness, and let them look after you. You will be in the safest of hands

  • Sorry to hear that you are to go through it all again, x

  • Sending you  a virtual hug for tomorrow x

  • Big hug for tomorrow and wishing you all the very best.  At least hopefully it will be pretty much over for you re the cancer.  Mine is a much more lengthy treatment, so have tried to stay as positive as possible.  Let us know how it goes.

  • The surgery is the first part they recommended chemo and immunotherapy and a pill I have to take for 5 years

  • Now just the aniexty of waiting for the results of the lymph node’s I won’t get that back until Jan 3
