Just found out I have breast cancer again. Had it 5 years ago when I had a mastectomy with DIEP reconstruction, then 5 years on hormone treatment. Now I've got it in the other breast. Going through the various scans at the moment but I already know lymph nodes are involved this time. Got to see consultant on Monday to find out what happens next. I just don’t know what to do. I'm on my own going through a divorce, waiting for confirmation that I have passed the probation period in my new job, got a new partner and now this. I'm devastated and can't face the thought of chemo plus if they take my lymph nodes away, will I have continually swollen arm. I admit to being a vain person!
Sorry to hear you are in the loop again.... Its not surprising with all you have going on.... they reckon cancer is caused by stress. So forget everything else - the divorce others can act on your behalf; work - takes your mind off the cancer, but make sure work know and they will surely put things in place for you; and new partner has to be worth their weight in gold and help you through this. So good luck. Try some Melatonin helps with sleep, stress and cancer
Hi Fitzgerald67, sorry to hear you have so much going on. No wonder you are devasted. As Anji has said others can act on your behalf about your divorce. Let work know what’s happening so they can make arrangements and help you out to try and make things easier. I had just over 3 months off and then came back at a gentle pace. Chemo is doable and depending on your results will depend on whether chemo is beneficial for you. I had an axillary clearance had had my lymph nodes removed. So far a year on all is good and I have had no swelling. I use my arm a normally as possible and I did all the exercises they gave me after my 2 ops as I was determined to keep things mobile and avoid lymphoedema if possible. Whilst it can develop at anything (from what I understand) I’m hoping that keeping mobile will prevent this.
It’s good to chat on the forum and get advice and support. If you have any questions don’t be worried about speaking to your medical team, they are there to help.
Wishing you all the best

Thank you for replying. It's reassuring about your arm. Hope I'm the same. X
