Hi, I'm a retired science teacher living on a small island off the west coast of Scotland. No children but I do serve a small, furry overlord, a Ragdoll cat called Rory.
I have just (11 days ago) been diagnosed.with stage 2 breast cancer. Still in shock but determined to maintain a positive attitude.
Welcome
Everyone is lovely here, and I’m sure you’ll find the lovely words of support very comforting.

I too was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer, about a month ago, I’m still trying to get my head round it. Emotions are up-and-down, but still trying to remain positive.
Hi, Rory's mum. I'm sorry about your diagnosis, but the people on this forum are lovely, and someone will usually respond to your queries quickly. The shock will wear off eventually (I was diagnosedn August and I think I've cried every day since) but you will still feel fragile. I cope by taking each hurdle as it comes and not thinking too far ahead otherwise I get overwhelmed. I start my chemtreatment this Fri and that's my next hurdle. No question is too trivial on this forum - as a retired nurse I wanted to be informed re my treatment, but even reputable sites can cause you to become xious, so I only research if I have to. As Djct says, don't google!. And Rory looks like a handful
Rory is wonderful,
I have a British Shorthair, a moggie and a medium haired kitten helping me through this difficult time. Not to mention a horse and a cockapoo! They really do help keep us distracted!
Very sorry to hear about your diagnosis.
I too was diagnosed recently. On 25th October, aged 45 with Invasive Ductal carcinoma.
It took me a lot longer than 11 days to feel up to finding a group like this so well done.
I had a mamogram, ultrasound and 2 biopsies at the breast clinic after finding a lump out of the blue on 7th Oct. Then I was diagnosed and sent for another biopsy (vacuum assisted biopsy, yuck!), a breast MRI, a body MRI and a CT...
I start chemo this Friday, then in the spring I will have surgery and then radiotherapy. It is going to be a long old road but I promise, once you have a plan in place, things start to feel a little more bearable.
We are all here for you!
xx
Hyai, Diddle. Sorry, I'm just seeing this now. I'm not great with all these different conversations and threads. I'm retired, not brain dead, but sometimes navigating around websites melts my head How did you get on at your first session? I'd love to compare notes, although I'm hoping neither of us has anything too dramatic to compare re our treatments. I was in and out in 2 1/2 hrs but I was so mentally exhausted I went to bed for a couple of hours and now I'm up, twiddling my thumbs and feeling a wee bit headachey and hoping it doesn't get any worse
Wow, mine took a lot longer. First I had to do a pregnancy test, then there was some confusion about whether I could start because I hadn'y had an ECG yet (to check my heart since one of my drugs is Filgrastim), They had to wait for the go ahead from my oncologist. I am also cold capping so that takes longer too.
I would say I was there for about 5 hours.
I felt spaced out all evening and also today too. Did they send you home with lots of drugs? It's a bit confusing. I feel my head is a bit spaced out and I am not quite with it.
I managed to come on my period 10 minutes after arriving at my chemo yesterday and I think at the moment, I am struggling more with period symptoms that chemo symptoms. Fingers crossed though.
Rest up and well done for getting through your first session!
x
