Hi
I am nearly 2 years in and treatment has finished, currently on Tamoifen and venlafaxine for the hot flushes etc. Around April I started to have a pain in my ribs where the radiotherapy was targeted. I had a ct scan in October which was all clear but the pain is so bad. Has anyone else had this, I'm scared they have missed something?
Wishing everyone a speedy recovery on here and Merry Christmas xx
Hi I had bi lateral mastectomies and axillary clearance 2 years ago and then radiotherapy 1 year age. I'm also on tamoxifen and venlafaxine and soon after finishing radiotherapy I started getting pain on my left side when I'm in bed and lie on it. I don't feel it during the day just when I lie on my side. I had a CT scan in July and it was all clear. I was told to try volterol and pain killers. Still have pain so I've been referred to the pain clinic. When I mentioned this to my GP she felt they wouldn't be able to do much for me and she suggested it could be scar tissue that can cause pain indefinitely! She offered me some nerve relaxant but I declined as I thought it might clash with the venlafaxine. So I'm just in limbo putting up with restless nights.
I haven't however I've had some pain in my pelvic area near the ovaries so I had a CA15 blood test that looks for tumour markers. It was normal so that put my mind at rest. Also my mum had breast cancer and later had bone metastasis, she had no pain just a small nodule like lump on her sternum.
If you are worried just tell your GP that you are concerned about recurrence, hopefully they'll do something for you.
Hi….i read that radiotherapy can cause small cracks on your ribs and collarbone that may cause some pain but their nothing to worry about it seems .. hope that’s all it is for you just finished my radiotherapy a few weeks ago and got some radiation burn two weeks of dressing but all sorted now .. hope that’s all it is for you..we worry about everything starting bone infusions to strengthen my bones every six months and letrozole for 10 yrs .. wish you all well xx
You should report your rib pain to your BC nurse again especially if it’s getting worse or moving into your back.
It is probably nothing but don’t be afraid to raise it again if you are concerned. I had rib pain and some lower back pain, physio didn’t help and neither did ibuprofen gel, so phoned the nurses. They organised a bone scan and CT scan, fortunately all clear and have concluded most likely long term damage from radiotherapy, so now I know it’s nothing sinister I can relax and actually noticed the pain is not quite so bad now I’m not so anxious about what it could be.
Hope you get som e relief soon
