Hi I am new to this supportive community. It’s good to hear what others are experiencing. At 68, I have been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer and have already undergone a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy which thankfully was successful and no spread was found. I am now waiting to know about my follow up chemotherapy treatment regime. The waiting seems really difficult. My oncologist appointment is on Dec 4th. How long did others have to wait between surgery and starting follow up treatment?

  • Hi Rosie H  sorry to hear of your diagnosis.  I think  everyone is different.   At 69 I have stage 3 breast cancer 24mm and one lymph node to be removed.  However my cancer was considered to large to operate and so I have two months strong fortnightly chemo, followed by three months weekly chemo, surgery and then radiotherapy.  I have had biopsy, and various MRI / pet scans.... in for the long haul  might just have qualified by my 70 birthday next year.  I have always been hyperactive and had several things going on a once, so I am taking this time to slow me down and read a few books, watch lots of films... Best of luck

  • usually after surgery i5 is 4-6 weeks

  • I wish you all the best on the rest of your treatment journey.

  • I’ve got my first chemo appointment 4th Dec as well.  Breast conserving op for 20mm lobular carcinoma, then back for removal of all nodes, CT  scans but no evidence of spreading. I’m thinking they won't start treatment now until after Christmas.

  • Hi Rosie H, welcome to the forum and I am sorry you have been diagnosed.  But so pleased your op results were ok.  The waiting is the worse part of all this I’m afraid.  But once you get on your treatments the time does seem to go quicker.  I wish you all the very best with your chemo etc.  I did not have to have chemo, but radiotherapy was about 8 weeks after my second op.  Sending hugs xx
