Hi, I was diagnosed yesterday after having my first mammogram at 50 about 3 weeks ago. Just trying to wrap my head around it all ATM. I have my appointment with the surgeon next week. Its ER/PR positive so hormonal but HER2 negative. Would be good to hear from others who have gone through this to help me understand what to expect I suppose. Feeling positive at the moment and just trying to get all the info I can. I'm one of those people who want to know rather than not xx
Hi,
I am exactly the same. I was diagnosed after my first mammo and got my biopsy results only a couple of weeks after my 50th.
Mine is ER+, HER2- as well.
Your surgeon will discuss the options with you and give recommendations based on the lump size and your breast size.
I had a lumpectomy and an SNB (1 lymph node taken for testing).
My lump was sent away for an Oncotype test, you may be offered this option depending on your hospital trust.
This test is for ER+ tumours and tests the likelihood of reoccurrence, and this helps decide if chemo is of benefit or not.
Ask me anything.
Hi, Firstly , sending you hugs. I'm 56. I had the same diagnosis 5 weeks ago after finding a lump whilst scratching! It really is a shock isn't it! I still can't really believe it. My lump was 12mm so pretty small. Thankfully I caught it early. Lymph nodes were clear on the mammograms / scans.
I had my op - wide local excision and lymph node biopsy 1 week ago. I was done as a day surgery case so didn't need to stay overnight. The surgeon, anaesthetist and nurses were all great. I had a lot of anxious moments in the period between diagnosis and surgery but found keeping busy with work and my horses helped. The op went well and I felt fine for the first day. Then the swelling and soreness kicked in over the next few days but nothing I can't cope with with the help of pain killers. 1 week later and some of the swelling has gone down and the bruising is starting to get better but still quite swollen. I have some numbness in my armpit and some change in sensation in 3 of my fingers in that side but nothing awful. It should improve in time I think.
I have my appointment with my consultant next Friday when I will get my results and treatment plan. I've been told I shouldn't need chemo but will need 5 radiotherapy sessions. Probably starting after Christmas.
I hope that helps. Good luck with everything, look after yourself and take it easy after your op.
Thank you yes your reply has helped. I'm glad to hear you have had a positive experience so far. I have to say the staff I have spoken to so far have been lovely. I hope your meeting goes well on Friday. Take care of yourself xx
I had exactly the same diagnosis as you. Had lumpectomy beginning of November with sentinal lymph node removed for checking. All went well and luckily no problems with recovery.
Just been back to hospital for results. Thankfully clear margins attained and no lymph node involvement. Next step will be 5 days radiotherapy probably after Christmas.
I think things get a bit better once you find out your plan.Good luck with your appointment next week.
Im in my 40’s and found the lump, and nipple discharge end of August . GP referred me straight away and got the diagnosis in September- grade1 invasive ductal carcinoma, er/pr positive her2 negative no lymph node involvement. Initially told it was 19mm but there were issues sizing the cancer. Each week there was something else to investigate. In total I had 3 biopsies and an MRI. The area to be removed was rather large 56mm x 57mm x30mm. I struggled with deciding between mastectomy or WLE and use of tissues from my back. In the ed I chose to do the latter . My surgery was postponed 3 times due to further tests required and eventually happened on Tuesday.
pain is not too bad and a managing with paracetamol. They give you exercises to do which I am doing. I have an appointment with the nurses on Monday to review the wound I think and my results should be ready in 2 weeks. I am told those results will give a final diagnosis of the cancer and best treatment option.
I am trying really hard to stay positive but it’s not easy. Good luck in your journey and hope all goes well.
As you will notice everyone’s journey is different but it is helpful to read about all the different experiences and helps in preparing you for the journey ahead. All the best
Hello Diva, thank you for sharing. My mum has just been diagnosed with breast cancer, they couldnt find anything on mamogram but the biopsy came back postive for breast cancer. She has gone for an MRI today.. Did you do this? Wishing you a speedy recovery and sending you lots of love xx
Thanks, I'm glad I have helped. It's the waiting game at the moment!
X
I'm glad it's helped you. Thanks. Take care of yourself too - hope all goes well with your treatment x
Thanks for your good wishes. No, I had mammograms and an ultrasound scan, not MRI. Hope all goes well for your mum. Xx
