Hi I've just had a mastectomy and are feeling really fortunate to have such brilliant consultants.
To explain myself my journey started on the first day of lock down when I had an emergency subtotal colectomy leaving me with not one but two bags an Ileostomy and a mucus fistula . Spending 3weeks in hospital half this in High dependency with no visitors due to covid . On returning to my sisters isolating from all the rest of my family for another 4weeks as I need a lot of help with my recovery . Because of the operation my Respiratory consultant (because I suffered with C.O.P.D ) phoned me concerned I had had this rather big operation and was surprised I’d got through it because of the condition of my lungs, so he decided I needed a scan to check on my lungs .After a Pet Scan which showed something he wasn’t happy with so I had more scans and 2. Broncoscopys it was decided to be past onto the oncologist who confirmed lung cancer in both lungs . . How lucky was I it had been caught very early and I had radiotherapy in sep 2021 and the cancer shrunk and was being monitored regularly every 3months . On my last visit my lung oncologist saw a small spot which he wasn’t happy with and asked me to get a mamagram.
So Aug 2023 I have a mamagram , Ultra sound a biopsies to be told a couple weeks later I had Ductal casenomer in situ and would have a lumpectomy with s reduction and uplift . An outcome I didn’t expect ,to be given the opportunity to have cancer removed and I would end up with nice pert firm Brest at 67 . .But this was not to be as there was also something else showing they weren’t happy with so I had another ultra sound 2 biopsy mamagram then an MRI. Now I had Grade 3 Tripple negative and would need a mastectomy . So her I am6 days after mastectomy waiting to see if the cancer has stayed within my breast as I have very fibrous breast and they couldn’t tell the extent the cancer has spread . I now await to see how much chemotherapy I will need . I still class my self as very lucky if it wasn’t for my consultants vigilance I might not be here today as I had no symptoms of my lung or breast cancer .
Amazing to read how well monitored you have been and that you’ve been given good care. You’ve been through so much, and I can only imagine how tough it’s all been physically and emotionally. What a warrior spirit you have. I’m scared about my surgery next week and have taken strength from your words. Sending love and good wishes for your continued recovery xx
