Hi I was diagnosed with early strange BC. Lumpectomy, chemo - just finished. 5 consecutive days radiotherapy next week. Then hormone tablets. Had Zoledronic Acid infusion last week which made me ill. I’m 71.
I’m told my prognosis is excellent so in that regard I feel lucky. Anyone have an idea about how long the fatigue will last from the chemo and if they experienced bad fatigue from the shorter dose of radiotherapy ?
It’s extremely rare for it to affect your teeth. The flu like symptoms are difficult but only last for 2 or 3 days. The benefits are important as they mitigate against bone problems.my last and final chemo was 3 weeks ago and the fatigue is slightly less especially in the mornings. I went for my assessment for radiotherapy today. I’m told side effects for that set I. 2 or 3 weeks afterwards.
Hi Kathy D sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with stage 3 BC and Lymph node back in August. I am 69 and generally very active - in fact was backpacking around Greek islands this time last year. Mine is a much longer treatment than yours - two months fortnightly; three months weekly, surgery and radiotherapy. However I am told my chemo will effect me differently - for instance the first two months will be strong. So not only are there different chemo medications, I suspect we all react to them differently. I have just finished my 2nd chemo of the first two months and I have to admit it totally knocked me off my feet for at least two days and even today has really been a half day before I had to sit and rest. Radiotherapy I cannot advise as I have not had that yet - but must do my research.
Wishing you well
Hi - you are more adventurous than me - backing in Greece! Sounds like you’ll be back there again sooner than you might imagine. As you say every person reacts differently to the myriad of treatment regimes there are. The o e common factor with chemo is the fatigue it seems. I’m more or less ok up until midday then I’ve had it. Hopefully we’ll both get stronger soon
Hi Kathy D. Well done on getting through all that treatment. It’s hard. If it helps the first Zoleanic acid treatment causes the worst side effects. The second much milder and subsequent milder still. That’s how it was for me as it’s common. I was fatigued after chemo but found that after a month I was recovered. I hope you will recover your energy in a few weeks. If not there are courses in managing it. I think there’s one in the look good feel better website. X
