Hello, I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and had a lumpectomy just over a week ago with some lymph nodes removed. Awaiting results but Ive developed a dry tickly cough a few days ago which won't go.  I'm terrified that it means cancer is in my lungs.   Feeling really scared and not sure how to stop myself constantly thinking that the cancer is spreading

  • we all worry its worse than expected after diagnosis, but try not to cross any bridges until you have to.

its hard but wait for results, drink hot water with lemon, try to do things you enjoy. hugs there will be enough time to deal with this as it comes, dont tie yourself in knots now.

  • Thank you, I will try

  • This often happens with any operation due to the tube down your throat when under anaesthetic.Suck strepsils and drink plenty xxx

  • Thank you.  I was hoping it might be something like that but scared myself because the cough only started maybe 5 days after op not straight after it.  Hopefully cough will go.  Have follow up appt with hospital next week to see next steps  how surgery went so maybe I could mention my worried there

  • Hi Angie

i developed a dry cough after I was diagnosed I was terrified but I was told it was a nervous cough and also like Jackie mentioned it could be after the operation . I used honey it did help

  • i think it's common to have those feelings. You think the worst wouldn't happen to you, and then it did. So now you feel vulnerable - it could happen again. I feel that way myself.  But a wise person on this site said to me - if you hadn't had breast cancer you would be thinking - I've got a cough, its winter. It's difficult waiting for results but in the mean time you can contact your breast cancer nurse and have a chat. They are really good.  Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Take care. XX

  • Thank you so much, sp glad I found this site, you gave all helped
