Hi All I’m just wondering if many have had the Oncotype test done and if so, was this private or NHS. Also was it offered to you or did you request? I’m waiting for oncologist appointment and called BCN to ask if I was able to have the test done, however, not heard back yet. If no reply as there busy, was thinking of asking my oncologist. Thanks in advance everyone xxx

  • I’ve been told they’re going to send some of my tissue for the oncotype  test after surgery. I.didn’t ask and I may have musremembeeed but I thought they said because it’s quite big and because of my age (early 50’s). You know how it goes though, so much info to take in xx

  • Thanks Sarah, I might see if they get back to me then. Everything I read says if stage 1-3 and DCIS and or invasive then oncotype test can be completed. Just want to tick all the boxes, but I assumeBlushhey would be in the case anyway. Blush

  • I was told about the test when the surgeon gave me my results from surgery.

She asked for my consent to send the sample for testing.  This was NHS but I know not every trust offers it.

  • I had oncotype DX test when the biopsy was taken, cost £3.5k as my trust doesn't offer it. Score was 23, oncologist recommend no chemo

    Best wishes x

  • Hi Palms

My consultant sent off for oncotype testing as cancer cells found in lymph nodes during surgery.

I didn't ask or pay for it.  I'm in NW England

If you can speak to your oncologist, I think it's only beneficial to have done for certain types of cancer.

    Good luck

    xx

  • Hi Auntflo thank you for the reply, yes I think I will ask the oncologist when I see him, I’m sure it would have been done if it was needed. X

  • ask, generally fi you are her2 positivem you get chemo anyway no need for onco. it is generally done on lymphs for er pr + her-. i didnt ask but since they found microm. in one lymph it was done and i lost the chemo lotto

  • It was my oncologist who decided that I needed it because of size of breast cancer .The tissue goes to America from the op .Unfortunately mine was over the 25 guide line .It was 30 so chemotherapy was ordered last one in December then Radiation as well.

  • Yes it seems that the oncologist is the person to speak to having the test done if needed. It was originally thought it was 10mm but post surgery 8mm. They did say margins were slightly not clear but not something they would need to do further surgery, as not too high. I think that is what is playing in my mind and I want it all to be sorted, and not something I fear will be returning.

  • did the do lymphs? were they clear? generallyif clear chemo is not recommended as not seen as spreading,i find it odd they leave the margins close Thinking
