This is all new to me. So I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July. Had mastectomy in August on the left side. I am still learning all the codes or abbreviations  that everyone is using. I’m start chemo this Friday. Have an appointment at hairdressers on Wednesday to cut my hair very short. Not brave enough to shave it off yet. Meeting the chemo team on Thursday. Having a picc line put in because I’m so scared of needles. I hate all this but it’s happening whether I like it or nor. It’s all so hard. The only thing that’s reassuring is reading everything on this forum knowing I’m not alone x

  • Hi Buzzy!

I had left mastectomy in July and have just finished first chemo!

This is a wonderful place to get advice and support.

I managed cannula so not too bad.

  • Hi Buzzy

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  I had a PICC line put in when I had chemo and it was great.  All my bloods were done through the PICC line as well as my chemo.  Once you start your treatment things should start to look up and you will be well looked after by your nurses.

Best of luck with your treatment.

    Best wishes

  • It’s a rollacoaster, but you will get through it! I’m 3 years since diagnosis and now leading a normal life. Good luck with the rest of the treatment. Remember it’s ok to cry, be cross, or what ever emotion you feel. All is perfectly normal, and the professionals will look after you x

  • Hi Buzzy,

Hope your picc line is in now and ready for use. I had one cos I was terrified of needles too - there’s a lot of us out there!

Good luck for your 1st  chemo tomorrow- you’ll be fine, the nurses are amazing.

Now you have started, you can tick the treatments off, it will soon go - just treat yourself well, eat what you fancy and do anything that makes you feel good.

    Best wishes x

  • Thank you Trentender.

  • Thank you everyone. Yes first chemo went well as it could. Had some nausea afterwards but other wise all good. Picc line was a great help. Just wondering did any of you have to self inject for 5days after chemo. They told me this when they were giving me my tablets to go home. This was a big shock to me and I was terrified at the thought. No warning about this when I met the chemo Dr at the beginning. And seeing as so many people that are scared of needles I think it should have been brought up in the meeting beforehand. I did manage it last night but it still scares me. And I’ve got tonight’s one to face x
