I had breast cancer surgery on one breast and underarm, and reconstruction on both breasts, on Monday 2 October. I'd like to be part of a community of people in a similar situation as I live alone. I'm in my sixties, and look forward to hopefully have some of my questions answered, and just to engage with others.
Hi and welcome to the forum. It is a great place to chat and ask questions on. I am in my sixties too and have had two surgeries on one breast and sentinel node biopsy. Has been four weeks since my last op. I hope you are recovering ok and wish you well with your treatment. It can’t be easy on your own, so you have come to the right place. Not everyone unfortunately understands how it is for you going through this, if they have not been there. So you will find it helpful here. Take care x
Hi there, not sure where you live but wonder if there's a Maggie's centre near you. Might also be worth asking your hospital if they have any groups you can join. Best wishes
Thanks Orcihd23! Everything was OK until yesterday evening when my breasts began to itch They've also turned orangey-brown. I don't know if this is a normal reaction which is why I came on here - I'm sure I'll find a thread which deals with it. Thanks for your kind words, and I hope you're recovering will too. X
Hi Irishgirl16. I'm in Glasgow and have visited the beautiful Maggie's centre in the grounds of the hospital. It's at the other end of the city so quite a journey, but I aim to get there again next week. Thanks for your help! X
Hi. Sorry you’re going through this. I hope there are some local groups like maggies or macmillan near you. Maybe your hospital can direct you. I had my surgery in 5 Sept and lime you had the orange brown colour but it’s faded now and is faint and I imagine will disappear. X
Oh thank you! I was hoping this was the case. I have my first follow-up with the surgeon on Tuesday so I'm not panicking unduly. Your reply has helped enormously. X
Hi there Boobsadaisy,
I had surgery on 27th Sept and my boob went a similar strange colour too. I'm guessing it's the bruising. I've had some swelling, odd shooting pains and twinges too so put my binder back on yesterday and this helped. Mad though that the boob they operated on is bigger than the other one!
All the best
Mines bigger than the other too bud inassume that’s the swelling. Definitely more comfortable with the bra on for the early weeks and even now although because I’ve started radiotherapy the advice is to take the bra off at home to allow air to circulate and prevent the redness erc
I had the itching after about 2 weeks, I suppose it’s the healing. I did not have much bruising with the first op, but a lot on the second one. It was orangey-brown and lasted about another week. Ask your BC nurse if it does not change. X
