I have recently been diagnosed for invasive lobular breast cancer. My mastectomy is next week. I think I am calm about losing a breast - the thought of general anaesthetic though terrifies me !!
Hi Tweenknit and sorry about your diagnosis. You sound just like me, when I found out I will need an operation it was the general anaesthetic that scared me the most.
Maybe have a chat with your breast care nurse. Mine was very reassuring and the risks of anything serious happening are very low. The anesthetist will be with you throughout the operation and keep a close eye on you.
Best of luck with your operation and I really hope your recovery goes well.
I had the same diagnosis as you and had a lumpectomy initially but had to have a mastectomy and lymph clearance … I was also so nervous about the whole process but honestly the anaesthetist was just so reassuring and all the nurses look after you so well afterwards . Usually you come home same day and the wonderful district nurses visit every day and make you feel so much better. Although you are apprehensive I promise you you will be fine and just think positively they are removing the cancer .. Wishing you all the very best and sending positive vibes ..
